El examen neurológico evidenció dolor toracolumbar a la presión digital, normorreflexia de los miembros pélvicos y deficiencias neurológicas en las reacciones posturales (prueba del salto y extensor postural), mientras que la propiocepción en el MP izquierdo estaba ausente y reducido en el derecho. La sensibilidad profunda era normal y la superficial se encontraba ausente en el MP izquierdo. La radiología confirmó el diagnóstico de subluxación vertebral entre la primera y segunda vértebra lumbar, con signos de compresión medular y deformación del cuerpo vertebral de la segunda lumbar y signos de discoespondilitis. El plan quirúrgico incluyó la descompresión quirúrgica dorso lateral izquierda mediante hemilaminectomía y la estabilización vertebral con tornillos y cemento óseo, lográndose la fijación espinal desde la décimo tercera vertebra torácica hasta la tercera vértebra lumbar. El posoperatorio se caracterizó por el manejo del dolor, antibioterapia y reposo absoluto por 21 días. El déficit neurológico propioceptivo persistió durante las primeras dos semanas y a partir de este tiempo el paciente fue recuperando toda la funcionabilidad motora y sensitiva de las extremidades posteriores hasta su total recuperación.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT A four-month-old female cat with pelvic limb proprioception (PL) deficit and non-ambulatory paraparesis with 10 days of presentation was referred for consultation. Neurological examination revealed thoracolumbar pain on digital pressure, normoreflexia of the pelvic limbs and neurological deficits in postural reactions (jumping test and postural extensor), while proprioception was absent in the left PL and reduced in the right PL. Deep sensitivity was normal and superficial sensitivity was absent in the left PL. Radiology confirmed the diagnosis of vertebral subluxation between the first and second lumbar vertebrae, with signs of spinal cord compression, deformation of the vertebral body of the second lumbar and signs of disc spondylitis. The surgical plan included left dorsolateral surgical decompression by hemilaminectomy and vertebral stabilization with screws and bone cement, achieving spinal fixation from the thirteenth thoracic vertebra to the third lumbar vertebra. The postoperative period was characterized by pain management, antibiotherapy and absolute rest for 21 days. The proprioceptive neurological deficit persisted during the first two weeks and, from this time onwards, the animal recovered full motor and sensory function of the hind limbs until full recovery.]]></p></abstract>
