Como estrategia de búsqueda se utilizaron los descriptores: &#8220;Enfermedad de Lyme, Borrelia burgdorferi, Ixodes ricinus y mordeduras por garrapatas&#8221;. La información obtenida evidenció que, en México, se conocen los primeros casos de la enfermedad desde 1991. Actualmente, en el complejo Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato (Bbsl) se reconocen 19 genoma-especies: B. burgdorferi sensu stricto (Bbss), B. garinii, B. afzelii, B. valaisiana, B. lusitaniae, B. spielmani, B. bissettii, B. bavariensis, B. japonica, B. andersonii, B. tanukii, B. turdi, B. sinica, B. californiensis, B. yangtze, B. carolinensis, B. americana, B. kurtenbachii y B. finlandensis. Las primeras ocho son consideradas patógenas al hombre. En Norteamérica, B. burgdorferi se transmite, fundamentalmente, por I. scapularis e I. pacificus, mientras que en Europa y Asia I. ricinus e I. persulcatus, respectivamente, son reconocidos como vectores. Varias especies del género (I. affinis, I. pararicinus, I. ricinus e I. boliviensis), así como del género Amblyomma, se han descrito en el Perú como vectores. Entre los reservorios de la enfermedad figuran los ratones Peromyscus leucopus y Apodemus leucopus, así como el venado cola blanca (Odocoileus virginianus). Se reconocen tres etapas de la enfermedad: temprana localizada, temprana diseminada y tardía. El diagnóstico depende de los resultados de las pruebas y de la presencia de manifestaciones clínicas, en tanto la técnica ELISA y el PCR tiempo real son efectivos en el diagnóstico. Los antibióticos amoxicilina, doxiciclina y ceftriaxona son efectivos en el tratamiento. A finales de 2020, se aprobó una vacuna en fase de prueba por Administración de Alimentos y Medicamentos para ser evaluada en personas. El ensayo clínico en fase 1, con 66 personas del estado de Nebraska, comenzó a finales de febrero de 2021.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT With the aim of performing a bibliographic update on Lyme disease, the information sources Academic Search Complete (EBSCO), Scopus and Web of Science were consulted from 2000 to 2021. The following descriptors "Lyme disease, Borrelia burgdorferi, Ixodes ricinus and tick bites" were used as a search strategy. The information obtained showed that the first cases of the disease have been known in Mexico since 1991.Currently within the Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato (Bbsl) complex, 19 genome-species are recognized: B. burgdorferi sensu stricto (Bbs), B. garinii, B. afzelii, B. valaisiana, B. lusitaniae, B. spielmani, B. bissettii, B. bavariensis, B. japonica, B. andersonii, B. tanuki, B. turdi, B. sinica, B. californiensis, B. yangtze, B. carolinensis, B. americana, B. kurtenbachii, and B. finlandensis. The first eight are considered pathogenic to humans. In North America, B. burgdorferi is mainly transmitted by I. scapularis and I. pacificus, while I. ricinus and I. persulcatus are recognized as vectors in Europe and Asia. Several species of the genus (I. affinis, I. pararicinus, I. ricinus, and I. boliviensis), as well as the genus Amblyomma have been described as vectors in Peru.
