El objetivo principal fue, describir el rango de Inteligencia Emocional y la Autoestima, e adolescentes de nivel de Educación General Básica. Se trata de una investigación descriptiva con enfoque cuantitativo, donde participaron 87 adolescentes, reclutados por conveniencia, de ambos sexos, entre 14 y 16 años. Para analizar los datos se aplicaron las escalas Bar-On ICE:NA que contiene 60 ítems y en el ámbito de Autoestima se utilizó el Cuestionario de Rosenberg (1965) que contiene 10 ítems. Así, los datos más relevantes obtenidos muestran que el 78.4 % presenta un rango alto de inteligencia emocional y una autoestima medio-baja. Se concluye que poseer inteligencia emocional no garantiza autoestima alta, esto se puede deberse a los diferentes cambios que se da en la etapa de la adolescencia.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Emotional intelligence and self-esteem are fundamental issues for the interpersonal development of every individual. The main objective was to describe the range of emotional intelligence and self-esteem in adolescents of General Basic Education level. This was a descriptive research with a quantitative approach, with the participation of 87 adolescents, recruited by convenience, of both sexes, between 14 and 16 years of age. To analyze the data, the Bar-On ICE:NA scales containing 60 items were applied and the Rosenberg Questionnaire containing 10 items was used in the area of self-esteem. Thus, the most relevant data obtained show that 78.4% present a high range of emotional intelligence and a medium-low self-esteem. It is concluded that having emotional intelligence does not guarantee high self-esteem; this may be due to the different changes that occur during adolescence.]]></p></abstract>
