<self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S0258-59362019000100009&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S0258-59362019000100009&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S0258-59362019000100009&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN Se colectaron frutos de uva de playa (Coccoloba uvifera L.) en zonas costeras al norte y al sur de Cuba, en tres localidades: Guardalavaca, Cayo Coco y Las Coloradas, con el objetivo de evaluar la variabilidad morfológica y fisiológica en frutos y plántulas de esta especie. Se evaluó la masa, el diámetro y el largo de los frutos y de las semillas. Las semillas colectadas fueron sembradas en condiciones de viveros; seis meses después se evaluaron las características morfológicas de las plántulas: altura de tallo, longitud de la raíz, masa seca del tallo y la raíz, así como características fisiológicas: contenido de agua en las hojas y las raíces, fluorescencia de la clorofila, área foliar y área foliar específica. Se calcularon las correlaciones entre todos los indicadores evaluados. Los resultados mostraron variaciones significativas en las características de los frutos y el crecimiento de las plántulas de uva de playa provenientes de las localidades estudiadas. Los frutos de la localidad Guardalavaca mostraron mayor tamaño y las semillas de la localidad Cayo Coco fueron las de mayor talla y masa. En el caso de las plántulas las de Cayo Coco mostraron los mayores valores de acumulación de biomasa en la parte aérea y en la raíz y de acumulación de agua en sus tejidos. Se encontró una relación directa entre los parámetros de las semillas e indicadores morfológicos y fisiológicos. Se recomiendan ensayos de biología molecular para estudiar si existen diferencias genéticas en la misma especie, así como identificar los mecanismos adaptativos de las plántulas a las condiciones estresantes donde se desarrollan.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Fruit of the seagrape (Coccoloba uvifera L.), in coastal areas north and south of Cuba, in three provenances were collected: Guardalavaca, Cayo Coco and las Coloradas with the objective of evaluating the morphological and physiological variability in fruits and seedlings of this species. The mass, diameter and length of the fruits and seeds were evaluated. The collected seeds were sown under nursery conditions, six months later morphological characteristics of the seedlings were evaluated: stem height, root length, stem and root dry mass, as well as physiological characteristics: water content in the leaves and the roots, fluorescence of chlorophyll, leaf area and specific leaf area. The correlations between all the evaluated indicators were calculated. The results showed significant variations in the characteristics of the fruits and the growth of the sea grape seedlings from the provenances studied. The fruits of the Guardalavaca provenance showed larger size and the seeds of the Cayo Coco locality were those of greater size and mass. In the case of the seedlings, those of Cayo Coco showed the highest values of biomass accumulation in the aerial part, in the root, and of water accumulation in their tissues. A direct relationship between the parameters of the seeds and morphological and physiological indicators were found. Molecular biology assays are recommended to study if there are genetic differences in the same species, as well as to identify the adaptive mechanisms of the seedlings to the stressful conditions where they develop.]]></p></abstract>
