Por tal motivo, el incremento en el uso de productos biológicos es uno de los retos de la agricultura moderna. La utilización de las algas, es una de las opciones más viables a utilizar con estos fines. Las algas, son organismos fotosintetizadores de organización sencilla, que viven en el agua o en ambientes muy húmedos. La Spirulina, es un tipo de microalga verde-azul, perteneciente al género Arthrospira, que es cultivada en muchos lugares del mundo y posee un gran interés en el campo de la biotecnología, debido a su alto valor nutricional. Con esta revisión bibliográfica se propone dar una visión general y actualizada sobre las algas, su clasificación, su composición y métodos de extracción; así como sus usos en la agricultura, haciendo énfasis en la Spirulina por ser un alga reproducida en Cuba hace más de dos décadas, con fines cosméticos y farmacéuticos; sin embargo, muy poco empleada con fines agrícolas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT The need for sustainable agriculture and consumers of organic products have increased worldwide in recent years. For this reason, the increase in the use of biological products is one of the challenges of modern agriculture. The use of algae is one of the most viable options to use for these purposes. Algae are photosynthetic organisms of simple organization that live in water or in very humid environments. Spirulina is a type of green-blue microalgae, belonging to the genus Arthrospira, which is cultivated in many parts of the world and has a great interest in the field of biotechnology, due to its high nutritional value. With this bibliographic review it is proposed to give an overview and updated on the algae, its classification, its composition, extraction methods and characterization; as well as its uses in agriculture, emphasizing Spirulina for being an algae reproduced in Cuba, more than two decades ago, for cosmetic and pharmaceutical purposes; however, very little used for agricultural purposes.]]></p></abstract>
