Objetivo:  Integrar a partir da literatura os estudos produzidos sobre pacientes com olho seco e/ou doenças da córnea internados em unidade de terapia intensiva (UTI) e conhecer o tempo para aparecimento de alterações oculares nestes estudos.  Métodos:  Trata-se de uma Revisão integrativa realizada nas seguintes bases de dados: SCOPUS, PUBMED, Cochrane Library, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, CINAHL e MEDLINE. A amostra final constituiu-se de 13 artigos.  Conclusão:  A realização desta revisão proporcionou o conhecimento sobre as características clínicas dos pacientes com olho seco e/ou doenças da córnea internados em UTI, o nível de evidência e o grau de recomendação, o tempo para surgimento das alterações oculares, fatores de risco e associações estatísticas comuns/divergentes entre os estudos, além de intervenções para reabilitação ocular. Assim, foi possível concluir que o tempo para aparecimentos das alterações oculares em pacientes internados pode ocorrer em 1 dia (24 horas) de internação.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN  Introducción: Al relacionar la problemática del ojo seco y de las enfermedades de la córnea, pacientes ingresados en Unidad de Terapia Intensiva presentan riesgo elevado para el desarrollo de estos eventos, pues están predispuestos a perder sus mecanismos naturales de protección ocular, por presentar condiciones clínicas graves que requieren soporte ventilatorio mecánico y sedación como métodos para garantizar el mantenimiento de la vida.  Objetivo: Integrar a partir de los estudios de literatura realizadas en pacientes con ojo seco y/o enfermedades de la córnea en la unidad de cuidados intensivos y conocer el tiempo de aparición de anomalías oculares en estos estudios.  Métodos:  Se trata de una revisión integradora realizada en las siguientes bases de datos: SCOPUS, PubMed, Cochrane Library, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, MEDLINE y CINAHL. La muestra final estuvo compuesta por 13 artículos.  Conclusión:  La realización de esta revisión previsto en el conocimiento sobre las características clínicas de los pacientes con ojo seco y/o enfermedades de la córnea en la UCI, el nivel de evidencia y grado de recomendación, la hora de inicio de las alteraciones oculares, los factores de riesgo y las asociaciones estadísticas comunes/divergentes entre los estudios y de intervención para la rehabilitación ocular. Por lo tanto, se concluyó que el tiempo de apariciones de alteraciones oculares en pacientes hospitalizados puede ocurrir en 1 día (24 horas) de la hospitalización.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction: By relating the problem of dry eye and corneal diseases, patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit have a high risk for the development of these events, since they are predisposed to lose their natural mechanisms of ocular protection, due to presenting serious clinical conditions that require mechanical ventilatory support and sedation as methods to ensure life maintenance.  Objetive:  To integrate, based on the consulted literature, the studies about patients with dry eye and/or corneal diseases in the intensive care unit and to know the onset time for eye abnormalities according to these studies.  Methods:  This is an integrative review carried out in the following databases: SCOPUS, PubMed, Cochrane Library, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, MEDLINE, and CINAHL. The final sample consisted of 13 articles.  Conclusión: La realización de esta revisión proporcionó conocimiento sobre: las características clínicas de los pacientes con ojo seco y/o enfermedades de la córnea en la UCI, el nivel de evidencia y grado de recomendación, la hora de inicio de las alteraciones oculares, los factores de riesgo y las asociaciones estadísticas comunes/divergentes entre los estudios, y las intervenciones para la rehabilitación ocular.  Conclusion: Carrying out this review provided knowledge about the clinical characteristics of patients with dry eye and/or corneal diseases in the intensive care unit, the evidence level and degree of recommendation, the onset time for eye alterations, the risk factors and common/divergent statistics associations among the studies, and the interventions for ocular rehabilitation. Therefore, it was concluded that the onset time for ocular alterations in hospitalized patients can occur at 1 day (24 hours) of hospitalization.]]></p></abstract>
