Materiales y Métodos:  Se realizó un experimento sobre la base de un diseño completamente aleatorizado. Se evaluó in vitro la inhibición de la eclosión de huevos de nematodos gastrointestinales de ovinos en diferentes concentraciones de la fracción rica en glicerol (diluciones seriadas desde 100 hasta 156 mg/mL). Se usó como control negativo la glicerina (10 v/v), con calidad analítica y agua destilada. Además, se identificaron los componentes de la fracción rica en glicerol mediante cromatografía gaseosa y se estudió la presencia de ésteres de forbol mediante espectrometría de masas, acoplada a un detector de tiempo de vuelo.  Resultados:  La fracción rica en glicerol registró una fuerte actividad ovicida con efecto dosis dependiente, con concentración letal media de 3,60 × 10-4 mg/mL. No se encontraron ésteres de forbol en la fracción rica en glicerol, mientras que la glicerina constituyó el compuesto mayoritario (74,8 %). Le siguieron los ácidos palmítico, esteárico, oleico y linoleico.  Conclusiones:  La fracción rica en glicerol inhibe la eclosión de huevos de nematodos parásitos gastrointestinales de ovinos, con efecto dosis dependiente. No se detectaron ésteres de forbol y el componente mayoritario fue la glicerina.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Objective:  To evaluate the effect exerted by the glycerol-rich fraction of Jatropha curcas L. oil, on the hatching of eggs from nematodes that parasitize sheep.  Materials and Methods:  A trial was conducted based on a complete randomized design. The inhibition of the hatching of eggs from sheep gastrointestinal nematodes in different concentrations of the glycerol-rich fraction (seriated dilutions from 100 to 156 mg/mL) was evaluated in vitro. Glycerin (10 v/v) was used as negative control, with analytical quality and distilled water. In addition, the components of the glycerol-rich fraction were identified through gas chromatography and the presence of phorbol esters was studied by mass spectrometry, coupled to a time-of-flight detector.  Results:  The glycerol-rich fraction recorded a strong ovicidal activity with dose-dependent effect, with mean lethal concentration of 3,60 × 10-4 mg/mL. No phorbol esters were found in the glycerol-rich fraction; while glycerin constituted the main compound (74,8 %). It was followed by palmitic, stearic, oleic and linoleic acids.  Conclusions:  The glycerol-rich fraction inhibits the hatching of eggs from parasite gastrointestinal nematodes in sheep, with dose-dependent effect. No phorbol esters were detected and the main component was glycerin.]]></p></abstract>
