Materiales y Métodos:  Se trabajó en tres bloques de 208 m2, divididos en cuatro parcelas, a los que se les aplicó cuatro dosis de materia orgánica (0, 2, 4 y 6 t ha-1). Cada parcela se dividió en tres subparcelas, en las que se usaron tres dosis de cal (0, 3 y 6 t ha-1). Posteriormente, cada subparcela se dividió en cinco sub-subparcelas, en las que se utilizó una de las cinco frecuencias de cosecha (28, 35, 42, 49, y 56 días). Se evaluó la respuesta agronómica y la composición química durante los períodos lluvioso y poco lluvioso. Además, se calculó el costo de producción del pasto C. clandestinus. Los resultados se analizaron con un diseño de parcelas divididas.  Resultados:  Las frecuencias de cosecha de 35 y 49 días mostraron mayor tasa de crecimiento diario durante los períodos lluvioso y poco lluvioso, respectivamente. Sin embargo, la frecuencia de cosecha no afectó el valor nutritivo. La aplicación de cal y materia orgánica no mostró un efecto evidente en la producción o calidad del forraje. La frecuencia de cosecha de 35 días tuvo un menor costo de producción.  Conclusión:  La cosecha o pastoreo del pasto C. clandestinus es variable, y no debe ser estática durante el año.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Objective:  To evaluate the effect of harvest frequency and application of lime and organic matter on the forage production, nutritional value and costs of Cenchrus clandestinus Hochstex Chiov Morrone.  Materials and Methods:  The work was done in three 208-m2 blocks, divided into four plots, to which four doses of organic matter (0, 2, 4 and 6 t ha-1) were applied. Each plot was divided into three subplots, in which three doses of lime (0, 3 and 6 t ha-1) were used. Afterwards, each subplot was divided into five sub-subplots, in which one of the five harvest frequencies (28, 35, 42, 49, and 56 days) was used. The agronomic response and chemical composition during the rainy and dry seasons were evaluated. In addition, the production cost of the pasture C. clandestinus was calculated. The results were analyzed with a split-plot design.  Results:  The harvest frequencies of 35 and 49 days showed higher daily growth rate during the rainy and dry seasons, respectively. However, the harvest frequency did not affect the nutritional values. The application of lime and organic matter did not show an evident effect on the forage production or quality. The 35-day harvest frequency showed lower production cost.  Conclusion:  The harvest or grazing of the pasture C. clandestinus is variable, and should not be static throughout the year.]]></p></abstract>
