En el primer experimento se utilizaron ninfas y adultos de T. colocasiae, procedentes de una cría de laboratorio. El ensayo de campo se desarrolló en una plantación del Instituto de Investigaciones de Viandas Tropicales (INIVIT), con alto porcentaje de infestación por el insecto. Se utilizó una solución de tabaquina, obtenida a partir de palillos de tabaco, macerados en agua durante 24 horas. Se evaluó el número de insectos muertos a las 24, 48 y 72 horas, y se determinó el porcentaje de efectividad técnica mediante la fórmula de Abbot. En condiciones de laboratorio, el porcentaje de efectividad técnica fue superior a 95 % a las 24 horas, tanto en ninfas como en adultos, sin diferencias significativas entre ambos estados de desarrollo. En condiciones de campo, el porcentaje de efectividad superó el 75 % a las 24 horas de aplicado el producto, con diferencias significativas respecto a los controles utilizados. Tanto en condiciones de laboratorio como de campo, el mayor número de insectos muertos se observó a las 24 horas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to determine the technical effectiveness of tabaquina against Tarophagus colocasiae under laboratory and field conditions. In the first experiment, nymphs and adults from T. colocasiae reared in the laboratory were used. The field test was carried out in a plantation with a high percentage of insect infestation at INIVIT. It was used a tabaquina solution obtained from tobacco sticks, macerated in water during 24 hours. The dead insect numbers were evaluated at 24, 48, and 72 hours, and the percentage of technical effectiveness was determined using Abbot's formula. Under laboratory conditions, the percentage of technical effectiveness was higher than 95 % at 24 hours, both in nymphs and adults, without significant differences between the two stages of development. Under field conditions, the effectiveness percentage 24 hours after the product application exceeded 75 %, with significant differences with respect to the controls used. In both, laboratory and field conditions, the greatest number of dead insects was observed at 24 hours.]]></p></abstract>
