La respuesta IgG específica a Ballum, Canicola, Icterohaemorrhagiae y Pomona inducida tras cada inmunización se determinó mediante un sistema ELISA cuantitativo de células enteras. La capacidad de protección heteróloga de vax-SPIRAL® se evaluó frente al reto con 100 y 10 000 DL50 de dos cepas clínicas de Ballum altamente virulentas. Tras 14 días de culminado el esquema de inmunización la vacuna trivalente indujo un 100% de seroconversión de IgG específica a Ballum en los animales inmunizados y una total protección cruzada frente a la infección letal y la prevalencia de leptospiras en hígado y riñón. La aplicación de una única dosis de preparación monovalente de Ballum tras 6 semanas de culminado el esquema de inmunización de vax-SPIRAL® reforzó la inmunidad frente a los cuatro serogrupos de Leptospira de mayor circulación en humanos en Cuba.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[The cross immunity and protective capacity of vax-SPIRAL® against Leptospira interrogans serogroup Ballum, as well as the effect of an active immunization with a Ballum monovalent vaccine in animals previously vaccinated with vax-SPIRAL® were evaluated in hamsters. Specific IgG response against Ballum, Canicola, Icterohaemorrhagiae and Pomona, induced after each immunization was determined by means of a quantitative ELISA. Heterologous protection by vax-SPIRAL® against a challenge with 100 and 10 000 LD50 of two clinical and highly virulent serogroup Ballum strains was also evaluated. Fourteen days after immunization, the trivalent vaccine induced 100% of Ballum specific IgG seroconversion and complete cross-protection against lethal infection and prevalence of leptospires in liver and kidney. A single dose of Ballum monovalent vaccine six weeks after vax-SPIRAL® immunization induced a booster effect on specific immunity against the four most prevalent human Leptospira serogroups in Cuba.]]></p></abstract>
