Maritza Crespo</I>  <H4>  RESUMEN</H4>  Se realiza un estudio farmacogn&oacute;stico a las partes a&eacute;reas  de plantas cultivadas en la Estaci&oacute;n Experimental de Plantas Medicinales  "Dr. J.T. Roig", en parcelas experimentales y en algunas muestras procedentes  de la Estaci&oacute;n de Topes de Collantes, secadas de forma natural y  artificial. Fueron determinados diferentes par&aacute;metros farmacogn&oacute;sticos  (humedad, cenizas, sustancias extractivas en agua y alcohol al 70 %, porcentaje  de aceite esencial, materias org&aacute;nicas extra&ntilde;as, porcentaje  de tallos y hojas). Se realiz&oacute; el estudio macro y micromorfol&oacute;gico,  el tamizaje fitoqu&iacute;mico y la determinaci&oacute;n del contenido  de mentol por cromatograf&iacute;a en capa delgada. Paralelamente se realiz&oacute;  una investigaci&oacute;n sobre la conservaci&oacute;n del material vegetal  en diferentes envases, en condiciones ambientales durante un a&ntilde;o.  Todos los par&aacute;metros determinados en las muestras estudiadas est&aacute;n  dentro de los l&iacute;mites que reportan otros pa&iacute;ses para esta  droga. Se concluye que la droga puede almacenarse hasta diez meses en frascos  de vidrio y latas compuestas sin que se afecte la calidad.        <P>Palabras clave: <I>Mentha piperita</I>; FARMACOGNOSIA; PLANTAS MEDICINALES;  CROMATOGRAFIA EN CAPA DELGADA.  <H4>  SUMMARY</H4>  A pharmacognostic study was carried out to aerial segments of cultures  plants in "Dr. J.T.Roig" Experimental Station of Medical Plants, in experimental  plots and in some samples from Station of Topes de Collantes, dried in  a natural and artificial fashion. Different pharmacognostic parameters  were assessed (moisture, ashes, extractive substances in 70 % of water  and alcohol, percentage of assential oil, foreing organic matter, percentage  of stems and leaves). A macro and micromorpholic study was performed, as  well as phytochemical sieving and determination of content of menthol by  thin layer chromatography. Parallel, a research on preservation of plant  products in different containers was made, under enviromental conditions  throughout the year. All parameters assessed in studied samples, are within  limits reported by others countries related to this drug. We concluded  that this drug may be stored up to ten months in glass flasks and composite  tins, without involvement of quality.        <P>Key words: <I>Mentha piperita</I>; PHARMACOGNOSY; ME-DICINAL PLANTS;  THIN LAYER CHROMATOGRAPHY.          ]]></body>
