Objetivos:  determinar la susceptibilidad antimicrobiana, los patrones de resistencia y el comportamiento de las cepas multidrogorresistentes a la amikacina y fosfomicina.  Métodos:  se realizó un estudio descriptivo retrospectivo, desde el 1 de junio 2017 hasta el 31 de diciembre 2018. El universo estuvo formado por 265cepas de Escherichiacoli aisladas de urocultivos, de pacientes ambulatorios con sospecha de infección del tracto urinario, de dos instituciones de salud: Hospital Aleida Fernández Chardiet y Centro Municipal de Higiene, Epidemiología y Microbiología, municipio de Güines, provincia de Mayabeque, Cuba.  Resultados:  se observaron niveles de sensibilidad por encima del 90% a los antibióticos fosfomicina, amikacina y nitrofurantoina. La mayor resistencia encontrada fue para ceftazidima (72%), seguido de trimetoprim- sulfametoxazol (61,5%), ácido nalidíxico (61,1%) y ciprofloxacina (52,8%). Las cepas mostraron un patrón de resistencia de tres a nueve antimicrobianos. El ácido nalidíxico y el trimetoprim-sulfametoxazol se encontraron en la mayoría de los patrones de multirresistencia. Nótese que en algunos perfiles está incluida, además, la ciprofloxacina. De las 265 cepas 147 (55,4%) resultaron multirresistentes. Se apreció que el 87% de las cepas multidrogorresistentes fueron sensibles a la fosfomicina y amikacina.  Conclusiones:  se apreciaron altos valores de resistencia para los antibióticos (trimetoprim-sulfametoxazol, ácido nalidíxico y ciprofloxacino). La fosfomicina y la amikacina podrían ser considerados una opción en el tratamiento de la infección urinaria por E. colimultidrogorresistentes. Estos resultados constituyen un motivo de inquietud y obligan a realizar un seguimiento estricto en los próximos años.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction:  the urinary tract infections acquired in the community caused by multidrug resistant Escherichia coli strains , are a growing phenomenon in the world.  Objective:  to determine the antimicrobial susceptibility, the resistance patterns and to find out the amikacin and fosfomycin sensitivity of the isolated multidrug resistant strains.   Methods:  we developed a descriptive retrospective study in the period from June 1st , 2017 to December 31st , 2018. The universe we worked with was formed by 265 isolated Escherichia coli strains of ambulatory patients, with suspected urinary tract infections, who belonged to two health institutions: Aleida Fernandez Chardiet Hospital and the Municipal Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology Center, in Güines Municipality, Mayabeque Province, Cuba.  Results:  amikacin, fosfomicin and nitrofurantoin presented over 90 % of effectiveness. Antimicrobial resistance of isolated Escherichia coli was most common to ceftazidime (72%), followed by trimethoprim - sulfamethoxazole (61.5%), nalidixic acid (61.1%) and ciprofloxacin (52.8%). The strains showed a resistance pattern from three to nine antibiotics. Nalidixic acid and trimethoprim - sulfamethoxazole were found in most of the multiresistance patterns. Notice that in some profiles, ciprofloxacin has been also included. From the 265 isolated strains of Escherichia coli , 147 (55.4%) were multidrug resistant; and from those, 87% showed higher sensitivity to fosfomycin and amikacin .  Conclusions:  trimethoprim - sulfamethoxazole and quinolones have a high resistance percentage.Fosfomycin and amikacin can be considered suitable therapeutic options for Escherichia coli multidrug resistant strains, based on the sensitivity studied.The results obtained from this study are a reason for epidemiological concern, and require a strict follow-up in the coming years.]]></p></abstract>
