En esta revisión bibliográfica se describen la prevalencia, categorías y etiología de las dislipidemias, además de las principales alteraciones que ocurren en las lipoproteínas y su repercusión en las concentraciones de lípidos en sangre y la relación entre la esteatosis hepática y la inflamación. Por último, se puntualiza la conducta terapéutica de las dislipidemias mediante modificaciones en estilos de vida (dietas hipocalóricas, ejercicios físicos, abandono del hábito de fumar y reducción del consumo de alcohol) y con medicamentos reductores de la lipidemia, como estatinas, ezetimibe, fibratos, anticuerpos monoclonales, secuestradores de ácidos biliares, niacina y ácidos grasos omega-3.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Dyslipidemia associated with insulin resistance is a common condition that increases the risk of atherosclerosis and diabetes mellitus. This bibliographic review describes the prevalence, categories and etiology of dyslipidemias; also the main alterations that occur in lipoproteins and their impact in blood lipid concentrations as well as the relationship between liver steatosis and inflammation. Finally, the therapeutic procedure for dyslipidemias is described through lifestyle modifications (hypocaloric diets, physical exercises, smoking cessation, reduction of alcohol consumption) and the use of lipidemia reducing medications such as statins, ezetimibe, fibrates, monoclonal antibodies, bile acid sequestrants, niacin and omega-3 fatty acids.]]></p></abstract>
