Objetivo: evaluar la efectividad terapéutica del Heberprot-P® (factor de crecimiento epidérmico humano recombinante) aplicado a pacientes con úlcera de pie diabético.  Método: ensayo no aleatorizado no controlado en 51 pacientes con pie diabético tratados con Heberprot-P®, en el Hospital Provincial General Docente de Chimborazo, Riobamba, Ecuador, entre enero-diciembre del 2013. Las variables analizadas fueron: edad, sexo, tipo de diabetes, lugar de procedencia, clasificación clínica de la enfermedad, clasificación de la lesión, número de infiltraciones realizadas, tiempo de tratamiento, respuesta al mismo y eventos adversos.  Resultados: El grupo etario que presentó mayor predisposición para úlcera de pie diabético fue el de 60 a 70 años y en el sexo femenino. El 58,8% de los pacientes presentaron pie diabético neuroinfeccioso.  Según la clasificación de Wagner, en el grado II de lesión, el más frecuente, se observó después de 24 infiltraciones de Heberprot-P® respuesta al tratamiento de cicatrización total en el 70,5% y parcial en el 27,5% además de satisfactorio en el 98% de los pacientes, en un periodo de 50 días. El principal efecto adverso encontrado fueron los escalofríos.  Conclusiones: se ratifica la efectividad del Heberprot-P® en el tratamiento de los pacientes con úlcera de pie diabético, además de ser un fármaco eficaz y seguro para su aplicación.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction:  diabetic foot ulcer is a health problem which requires effective treatment to decrease the rate of amputations.  Objective:  to evaluate the therapeutic effectiveness of Heberprot-P® (recombinant human epidermal growth factor), applied to diabetic foot ulcer patients.  Methods:  non-randomized, uncontrolled trial in 51 diabetic foot patients treated with Heberprot-P® at General Teaching Hospital of Chimborazo, Riobamba, Ecuador, during the period from January to December 2013. The variables analyzed were: age, sex, type of diabetes, place of origin, clinical classification of disease, injury classification, number of infiltrations carried out, treatment time, response to it and adverse events.  Results:  the most predisposed to diabetic foot ulcers was the 60-70 age group and the female. 58.8% of the patients presented neuroinfectious diabetic foot. According to Wagner classification, in Grade II injury, the most frequent, after 24 infiltrations of Herberprot P®, the response to the treatment observed was total healing in 70.5% and partial in 27.5%, being satisfactory in 98% of the patients within a period of 50 days. The main adverse effect found was chills.  Conclusions:  the effectiveness of Heberprot-P® in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcer patients is confirmed, in addition to being an effective and safe drug for application.]]></p></abstract>
