El incremento de la supervivencia a la enfermedad se acompaña de efectos adversos a largo plazo, por lo que el síndrome metabólico es uno de los problemas más importantes.  Objetivo:  describir los componentes del síndrome metabólico en los sobrevivientes de leucemia linfoblástica aguda infantil.  Métodos:  se realizó una búsqueda de los principales artículos científicos de los últimos años, así como de la literatura impresa que incluye el tema, se seleccionaron los contenidos más relevantes para la confección del artículo.  Resultados:  el síndrome metabólico incrementa su aparición en los sobrevivientes de leucemia linfoblástica aguda, sus principales componentes: la obesidad, la hipertensión, la dislipidemia y la insulinorresistencia asociada o no a diabetes mellitus tipo 2, aumentan el riesgo de complicaciones cardiovasculares.  Conclusiones:  la leucemia linfoblástica aguda es la forma clínica más frecuente de cáncer en la infancia. Debido a los actuales y eficaces tratamientos se observa un incremento en la supervivencia, sin embargo, se asocia a síndrome metabólico en un número elevado de casos, lo que influye en la calidad de vida de estos pacientes y constituye un problema real de salud. La aparición temprana del síndrome metabólico y sus componentes entre los sobrevivientes de leucemia aguda exige una detección precoz y continua para identificar las personas en riesgo e implementar medidas preventivas por el equipo multidisciplinario de médicos especialistas en pediatría, hematología y endocrinología.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction:  leukemia comprises a heterogeneous group of hematological malignancies that affect the differentiation of leukocytes in the bone marrow. The increase in disease survival is accompanied by long-term adverse effects with metabolic syndrome being one of the most important problems.  Objective:  to describe the components of metabolic syndrome in survivors of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia.  Methods:  a search was made of the main scientific articles of the last years, as well as of the printed literature that includes the subject, being selected the most relevant contents for the preparation of the article.  Results:  metabolic syndrome increases its appearance in survivors of acute lymphoblastic leukemia, its main components: obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia and insulin resistance associated or not with type 2 diabetes mellitus increase the risk of cardiovascular complications.  Conclusions:  acute lymphoblastic leukemia is the most frequent clinical form of cancer in childhood. However, it is associated with metabolic syndrome in a high number of cases, which influences the quality of life of these patients and constitutes a real health problem. The early appearance of metabolic syndrome and its components among acute leukemia survivors requires early and continuous detection to identify those at risk and implement preventive measures by the multidisciplinary team of physicians specializing in pediatrics, hematology and endocrinology.]]></p></abstract>
