Objetivo: describir las afectaciones visuales asociadas al COVID-19  Métodos: se realizó una búsqueda de información en las bases de dato Scopus, PubMed/MedLine y SciELO sobre las secuelas visuales en pacientes con COVID-19. Se aplicó una estrategia de búsqueda según la sintaxis de cada base de datos.  Resultados: las alteraciones más frecuentes presentadas fueron las secuelas respiratorias y neurológicas. A pesar de que se ha investigado mucho al respecto, el cúmulo de cocimientos permite orientar a la comunidad científica pero no es del todo concluyente, menos si se trata de complicaciones poco frecuentes como las visuales y su relación con la patogenia de este virus. Se expone la presencia en la superficie ocular de receptor de ACE2 y otras moléculas que justifica la penetración del virus por la mucosa ocular y la inflamación que se produce como consecuencia de la infección.  Conclusiones: la evidencia sobre las afectaciones oculares por COVID-19 se encuentra disgregada y con baja evidencia. Las estructuras oculares poseen receptores para ACE2 que utiliza el coronavirus para ingresar al organismo, sin embargo, las complicaciones oculares son poco frecuente y leves como la conjuntivitis. Todo lo revisado concuerda en la importancia del uso de equipos de seguridad como gafas, caretas y mascarilla para prevenir la contaminación por las secreciones oculares.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction:  the COVID-19 pandemic has infected millions of people worldwide, leaving a global burden for the long-term care of survivors. Objective: to describe the visual impairments associated with COVID-19.  Methods:  we searched the Scopus, PubMed/MedLine and SciELO databases for information on visual sequelae in patients with COVID-19. A search strategy was applied according to the syntax of each database.  Results:  the most frequent alterations presented were respiratory and neurological sequelae. Although much research has been done on this subject, the accumulation of knowledge provides guidance to the scientific community but is not entirely conclusive, especially in the case of rare complications such as visual complications and their relationship with the pathogenesis of this virus. The presence in the ocular surface of ACE2 receptor and other molecules that justify the penetration of the virus through the ocular mucosa and the inflammation produced as a consequence of the infection is exposed.  Conclusions:  the evidence on ocular affections by COVID-19 is disintegrated and with low evidence. Ocular structures have receptors for ACE2 used by the coronavirus to enter the organism; however, ocular complications are infrequent and mild, such as conjunctivitis. Everything reviewed agrees on the importance of the use of safety equipment such as goggles, masks and masks to prevent contamination by ocular secretions.]]></p></abstract>
