Objetivo:  argumentar la importancia de la formación de habilidades comunicativas en estudiantes de medicina.  Métodos:  se utilizó el método general dialéctico materialista. De igual forma, se dedica un espacio al análisis conceptual y a sus características.  Desarrollo:  se exponen conceptos de habilidades comunicativas y se argumenta con diferentes razones su importancia.  Conclusiones:  se reconoce la importancia de la formación de habilidades comunicativas en estudiantes de medicina para su desempeño profesional, teniendo en cuenta los modos de actuación que demanda la sociedad en la actualidad.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction:  communicative skills are a necessity for the medical professional, however, in the training process there are deficiencies that partly originate from the lack of importance given by educators and students to the training of communicative skills.  Objective: to argue the importance of communication skills training in medical students.  Methods:  the general dialectical-materialistic method was used. Likewise, a space is dedicated to the conceptual analysis and its characteristics.  Development:  concepts of communicative skills are presented and their importance is argued with different reasons.  Conclusions:  the importance of the formation of communicative skills in medical students for their professional performance is recognized, taking into account the modes of action currently demanded by society.]]></p></abstract>
