Constituye una de las primeras causas de morbimortalidad en adultos y adultos mayores. Es considerada como la primera causa de ceguera prevenible y de amputaciones no traumáticas en miembros inferiores; la prevención y diagnóstico precoz constituyen los pilares para el control de la enfermedad. El objetivo de la investigación fue sistematizar los resultados de estudios sobre riesgo de diabetes mellitus tipo 2 en adultos según estudios que emplearon el test de FINDRISC. Para esto se realizó una investigación básica, no experimental, descriptiva, transversal y documental consistente en una revisión bibliográfica con universo de estudio de 83 documentos, de los cuales 29 formaron parte de la muestra. La revisión incluyó el uso de descriptores de salud y operadores booleanos; se centró en la búsqueda de información publicada en revistas indexadas en bases de datos de alto impacto como Medline, Scopus, PubMed e Ice Web of Sciencie y en bases de datos regionales como son Scielo, Latindex, Lilac y Redalyc entre otras. Como principales resultados se incluyen la caracterización del nivel de riesgo de padecer diabetes tipo 2 en base a los factores sociodemográficos y bioantropométricos que favorecen la aparición de la enfermedad. Se concluye que la diabetes mellitus genera elevada morbimortalidad que afecta la capacidad funcional y calidad de vida de los pacientes. El test FINDRISC aporta ventajas en cuanto a la predisposición o riesgo de padecer la enfermedad.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Diabetes mellitus is a chronic, endocrine-metabolic disease, identified as a global health problem. It constitutes one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in adults and the elderly. It is considered the first cause of preventable blindness and non-traumatic amputations in the lower limbs; prevention and early diagnosis constitute the pillars for the control of the disease. The objective of the study was to systematize the results of studies on the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults according to studies that used the FINDRISC test. For this, a basic, non-experimental, descriptive, cross-sectional and documentary investigation was carried out consisting of a bibliographic review with a universe of study of 83 documents, of which 29 were part of the sample. The review included the use of health descriptors and Boolean operators; focused on the search for information published in journals indexed in high-impact databases such as Medline, Scopus, PubMed and Ice Web of Science and in regional databases such as Scielo, Latindex, Lilac and Redalyc among others. The main results include the characterization of the level of risk of suffering from type 2 diabetes based on sociodemographic and bioanthropometric factors that favor the appearance of the disease. It is concluded that diabetes mellitus generates high morbidity and mortality that affects the functional capacity and quality of life of patients. The FINDRISC test provides advantages in terms of predisposition or risk of suffering from the disease.]]></p></abstract>
