El propósito de esta investigación fue evaluar de modo preliminar la calidad para el riego de las aguas del río Yamanigüey en 12 muestras tomadas a lo largo de la cuenca. Se evaluó el comportamiento de los parámetros fisicoquímicos y se determinó la calidad del agua con base en los valores de la relación de adsorción de sodio, la conductividad eléctrica, el coeficiente de irrigación, la salinidad potencial y la salinidad efectiva. Se concluye que las aguas del río Yamanigüey tienen una calidad de buena a excelente y, según las normas de Riverside, son aptas para su utilización en el riego agrícola, excepto en suelos de muy baja permeabilidad para cultivos sensibles a la salinidad y al sodio.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT The quality of water intended for irrigation is mainly determined by the content and type of salts present in it. The purpose of this research is to evaluate Yamanigüey River&#8217;s water quality for agricultural irrigation in 12 samples taken throughout the basin in preliminarily way. Performance of physicochemical parameters was evaluated and water quality was determined based on the values of sodium adsorption ratio, electrical conductivity, irrigation coefficient, potential salinity and effective salinity. It is concluded that waters on Yamanigüey River have a good to excellent quality and, according to Riverside standards, its water is suitable to use in agricultural irrigation, except in very low permeability soils for salinity and sodium sensitive crops.]]></p></abstract>
