<self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S2071-00542019000400001&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S2071-00542019000400001&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S2071-00542019000400001&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT The simulation of the behavior of guava fruits (Psidiumguajava L) Red Dwarf variety EEA 1-23 subjected to impact loads, using the Finite Element Method (FEM), arises from the need to evaluate the possibility of using this method of simulation as non-destructive technology for the prediction of mechanical damage.Guava fruits of the variety under study were harvested in two stages of maturity (green-made and ripened) and subjected to experimentation with the purpose of studying the effect of the efforts on the tissue when they are subjected to impact damage. At the same time, the impact process was simulated through the FEM, comparing the results with those obtained experimentally.The results showed high potentialities of the FEM for the simulation of damages in impacted guava on concrete and on wood with an accuracy of 85% to 98% for fruits in green-ripened state and from 72% to 81% for ripe fruits.The simulation runs with finite element tools showed that, for mature fruits subjected to a fall height of 0.5 and 1 m, respectively, on the surfaces under study, the effort in the area of impact of the fruit exceeded tothe elastic limit of its tissues, which resulted in the order of 40 kPa.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN La simulación del comportamiento del fruto de la guayaba (PsidiumGuajava L) variedad Enana Roja EEA 1-23 ante la acción de cargas de impacto, mediante el Método de los Elementos Finitos (MEF), surge a partir de la necesidad de evaluar la posibilidad de utilizar este método de simulación en calidad de tecnología no destructiva para la predicción de daños mecánicos. Frutos de guayaba de la variedad objeto de estudio fueron cosechados en dos estados de madurez (verde-hecho y maduro) y sometidos a experimentación con la finalidad de estudiar el efecto de los esfuerzos en el tejido cuando son sometidos a daños por impacto.Paralelamente se simuló el proceso de impacto mediante el MEF, comparándose los resultados con los obtenidos experimentalmente. Entre los resultados se evidenciaron elevadas potencialidades del MEF para la simulación de daños en guayaba impactada sobre concreto y sobre madera con una precisión de 85% a 98 % para las frutas en estado de maduración verde-hecho y de 72% a 81 % para las frutas maduras. Las corridas de simulación con herramientas de elementos finitos mostraron que, para los frutos maduros sometidos a una altura de caída de 0,5 y 1 m, respectivamente,sobrelas superficies objeto de estudio, el esfuerzo en el área de impacto de la fruta resultó superior al límite elástico del tejido del fruto, que resultó en el orden de los 40 kPa.]]></p></abstract>
