In order to assess the water quality in nurseries for the production of tilapia Oreochromis niloticus on Tchissola II Farm in Chipipa commune in Huambo municipality, this study was carried out in the initial phase of the fish project implementation between December 2020 - February 2021. The physical (temperature and transparency) and chemical (dissolved Oxygen, Hydrogen potential and total ammonia) parameters considered the most sensitive and relevant for this type of production were evaluated. The Alfakit's water quality analysis kit ACQUAcombo for aquaculture was used to measure the foremost variables. The results obtained for the transparency with values of 40 cm, temperature 25.7ºC, dissolved Oxygen 6.75 mg/L and Hydrogen potential 7.5 denoted that the physical and chemical parameters of water quality in production ponds, found if within normal levels considered tolerable. However, it is necessary to monitor and manage more carefully ammonia, which varied remarkably, reaching levels considered critical and even lethal around 3.0 mg/L.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[RESUMO A água é o principal recurso na produção piscícola, e para o êxito precisa-se da sua disponibilidade na quantidade e qualidade requerida. No intuito de avaliar a qualidade da água em viveiros de produção da tilápia Oreochromis niloticus na Fazenda Tchissola II na comuna da Chipipa no município do Huambo, realizou-se o presente estudo na fase inicial de implementação do projeto piscícola entre os meses de dezembro 2020 - fevereiro 2021. Foram avaliados os parâmetros físicos (temperatura e transparência) e químicos (Oxigênio dissolvido, potencial de Hidrogênio e amônia total) considerados os mais sensíveis e relevantes para este tipo de produção. Na avaliação dos parâmetros usou-se o kit de campo ACQUAcombo de análise de qualidade da água para a aquicultura da Alfakit. Os resultados obtidos para a transparência com valores de 40 cm, temperatura 25,7ºC, Oxigênio dissolvido 6,75 mg/L e potencial de Hidrogênio 7,5 denotaram que os parâmetros físicos e químicos de qualidade da água em viveiros de produção, encontraram-se dentro dos níveis normais considerados toleráveis. No entanto, precisa-se monitorizar e manejar mais cautelosamente a amônia, a qual variou notavelmente, chegando a alcançar níveis considerados críticos e até letais de 3,0 mg/L.]]></p></abstract>
