Their physical properties are often affected, with effects on plant growth, yield and quality of crops, also increasing vulnerability to erosion. The following work was carried out at &#8220;El Mamey&#8221; Farm, near San José de las Lajas (Mayabeque Province, Cuba) and dedicated to the cultivation of vegetables and flowers. At each sample point, a macromorphological description of the soil and determinations of organic matter, mechanical composition, apparent density, porosity and percentage of aggregation were made. From the results obtained, the structural stability index was calculated, as well as correlations of some of these variables with the organic matter of the soil, in order to identify the main incident factors in physical degradation, which suggested processes of anthropogenic origin. Based on their analysis, conservation measures are suggested in order to promote the recovery of the soil and improve the sustainability of production.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN Los suelos Ferralíticos de la llanura Habana - Matanzas han sido sometidos a procesos de degradación de origen natural o antropogénico. Las propiedades físicas de los mismos suelen ser afectadas, con efectos sobre el crecimiento de las plantas, el rendimiento y la calidad de las cosechas, incrementando también la vulnerabilidad a la erosión. El siguiente trabajo se realizó en la Finca &#8220;El Mamey&#8221;, cercana a San José de las Lajas (Provincia Mayabeque, Cuba) y dedicada al cultivo de hortalizas y flores. En cada punto muestral se realizó una descripción macromorfológica del suelo y determinaciones de: materia orgánica, composición mecánica, densidad aparente, porosidad y porcentaje de agregación. A partir de los resultados obtenidos se calculan el índice de estabilidad estructural, así como correlaciones de algunas de estas variables con la materia orgánica del suelo, a fin de identificar los principales factores incidentes en la degradación física, los cuales sugieren procesos de origen antropogénico. A partir de su análisis se sugieren medidas de conservación con la finalidad de propiciar la recuperación del suelo y mejorar la sostenibilidad de la producción.]]></p></abstract>
