A total of 40 crossbreed steers (Bos taurus x Bos indicus), with average initial live weight of 276 ± 28 kg for 120 d were used. They were fed individually with 1 kg d-1 of concentrate (14 % CP) and African oil palm fiber. A completely randomized design was applied, according to the following treatments: 1)control, only grazing (CG); 2) grazing + African oil palm fiber (AOPF-0); 3) grazing + African oil palm fiber + 15 g animal-1 d-1 of Bioplex Quality Meat (AOPF-15) and 4) grazing + African oil palm fiber + 30 g animal-1 d-1 Bioplex Quality Meat (AOPF-30). The daily weight gain of the steers was improved with Bioplex Quality Meat, with a linear effect (P &lt;0.01); (CG =492, AOPF-0 = 554, AOPF-15 = 637, AOPF-30 = 792 g d-1 Bioplex Quality Meat). This was associated with the increase in intake (linear effect P &lt;0.05) of African oil palm fiber (CG = 0.0, AOPF- 0 = 3.06, AOPF-15 = 3.08, AOPF-30 = 3.36 kg d-1) and higher DM digestibility (P &lt;0.05) with respect to the control group (CG = 67.13, AOPF-0 = 74.26, AOPF-15 = 72.29, AOPF-30 = 72.46 %).There was no effect on total forage or DM intake. It is concluded that Bioplex Quality Meat increases the nutrient availability of the African oil palm fiber, which improves the daily weight gain.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Se estudió el efecto de la adición de un mineral orgánico (Bioplex Quality Meat) y un complemento de fibra de palma de aceite africana como forraje complementario en la ganancia y digestibilidad de novil- los de engorde en pastoreo, en condiciones tropicales. Se utilizaron 40 novillos cruzados (Bos taurus x Bos indicus), con peso vivo inicial promedio de 276 ± 28 kg durante 120 d. Se alimentaron en forma individual con 1 kg d-1 de concentrado (14 % PC) y fibra de palma de aceite africana. Se aplicó un dis- eño completamente al azar, de acuerdo con los tratamientos siguientes: 1) testigo, solo pastoreo (TP); 2) pastoreo + fibra de palma de aceite africana (FPAA-0); 3) pastoreo + fibra de palma de aceite africana + 15 g animal-1 d-1 de Bioplex Quality Meat (FPAA-15) y 4) pastoreo + fibra de palma de aceite africana +30 g animal-1 d-1 Bioplex Quality Meat (FPAA-30). Se mejoró la ganancia diaria de peso de los novillos con Bioplex Quality Meat, con un efecto lineal (P &lt; 0.01); (TP = 492; FPAA-0= 554; FPAA-15 = 637; FPAA-30 = 792 g d-1 Bioplex Quality Meat). Esto se asoció al incremento en el consumo (efecto lineal P &lt; 0.05) de la fibra de palma de aceite africana (TP = 0.0; FPAA-0 = 3.06; FPAA-15 = 3.08; FPAA-30= 3.36 kg d-1) y a mayor digestibilidad de la MS (P &lt; 0.05) con respecto al grupo testigo (TP = 67.13; FPAA-0 = 74.26; FPAA-15 = 72.29; FPAA-30 = 72.46 %). No se detectó efecto en el consumo total de forraje ni de MS. Se concluye que Bioplex Quality Meat aumenta la disponibilidad de nutrientes de la fibra de palma de aceite africana, lo que mejora la ganancia diaria de peso.]]></p></abstract>
