These varieties were obtained by tissue culture from CT-115, which was used as control in a pre-mountain area in Guisa municipality. The experiment was developed in the middle phase of rainy period and beginning of dry period. New varieties showed, together with control, high percentages of sprout under pre-mountain conditions (40-65%) and a sigmoidal growth, fitted to an exponential curve. Absolute growth rate was accelerated from 35 days, with a meseta of values of 2 cm day-1 up to 77 days, except CT-605. Later, an important decrease was verified from 77 up to 120 days with less than 0.5 cm day-1. CT-605 showed higher number of leaves (p&#8804;0.05) and CT-115 had the highest length of internodes and leaves (p&#8804;0.05). In the number of nodes, CT-601 wad superior (p&#8804;0.05). There was no effect of variety on yield of dry matter (DM) and yield values close to 15 t ha-1 of total DM and 4 t ha-1 of DM of leave in the establishment cut were reached. It is concluded that new varieties under pre-mountain conditions show high germination (&#8805; 50 %) with favorable development and growth. It is recommended to evaluate growth and structure of the new varieties in different moments of development under edaphoclimatic conditions of pre-mountain.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen En un diseño de bloques al azar con cuatro réplicas se evaluó la capacidad de establecimiento de variedades de Cenchrus purpureus tolerantes a la sequía (CT-601, CT-603 y CT-605), obtenidas por cultivo de tejidos a partir de la variedad CT-115, que se usó como control en una zona de pre-montaña en el municipio de Guisa. El experimento se desarrolló en la fase media del período lluvioso e inicio del poco lluvioso. Las nuevas variedades manifestaron, junto al control, elevados porcentajes de brotación en condiciones de pre-montaña (40-65%) y un crecimiento sigmoidal, ajustado a una curva exponencial. La tasa de crecimiento absoluto se aceleró a partir de los 35 días, con una meseta de valores de 2 cm día-1 hasta los 77 días, exepto el CT-605. Luego se constató un decline importante desde 77 hasta 120 días con menos de 0.5 cm día-1. El CT-605 presentó mayor número de hojas (p&#8804;0.05) y el CT-115 mayor largo de entrenudos y hoja (p&#8804;0.05). En el número de nudos, el CT-601 fue superior (p&#8804;0.05). No se encontró efecto de variedad en el rendimiento de materia seca (MS) y se alcanzaron valores de rendimiento cercanos a 15 t ha-1 de MS total y 4 t ha-1 de MS de hojas en el corte de establecimiento. Se concluye que las nuevas variedades en condiciones de pre- montaña presentan alta brotación (&#8805; 50 %) con favorable desarrollo y crecimiento. Se recomienda evaluar el crecimiento y estructura de las nuevas variedades en diferentes momentos de desarrollo en las condiciones edafoclimáticas de la pre-montaña.]]></p></abstract>
