A total of 15 grass sites were selected and of these, ten were milk producers. For this, the proximity to the emission sources and the concentrations of these pollutants in agricultural soils from Havana and Mayabeque were taken into account. Gas chromatography with mass detection was used for its identification and quantification. The results were analyzed by linear regression, descriptive statistics and simple ANOVA and Tukey test to determine differences in the studied matrices. The Infostat statistical package was used for this. The median concentration of the sum of the PAHs in grass and milk were 45.0 and 10.1 &#956;g/kg, respectively, with predominance of phenanthrene. Significant associations were found between the PAHs concentrations between grass and soil (y = 2.4109x -11.073, R² = 0.8444, SE = 0.42, P &lt;0.01), as well as in grasses and milk near sources of contamination (and = 0.1848x-17.675, SE = 3.9E-03, R2 = 0.9996, P &lt;0.05). The data presented contributes to the limited information on the presence of this group of persistent organic pollutants in cattle farms from the Caribbean region and it is concluded that the milk is safe, according to the European Union regulation and the grasses are of low risk for the animals health.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen En este estudio se cuantificó la concentración de los hidrocarburos aromáticos policíclicos (HAPs) en pasto y leche, y se estimó la relación entre su concentración en estas matrices y las reportadas en el suelo. Se seleccionaron 15 sitios de pasto y de estos, diez resultaron ser productores de leche. Para ello, se tuvo en cuenta la cercanía a las fuentes emisoras y las concentraciones de estos contaminantes en suelos agropecuarios de La Habana y Mayabeque. Se empleó la cromatografía gaseosa con detección de masa para su identificación y cuantificación. A los resultados se le realizó análisis de regresión lineal, estadística descriptiva y ANOVA simple y test de Tukey para determinar diferencias en las matrices estudiadas. Se utilizó para ello el paquete estadístico Infostat. La mediana de concentración de la suma de los HAPs en pasto y leche fueron de 45,0 y 10,1 µg/kg, respectivamente con predominio del fenantreno. Se encontraron asociaciones significativas entre las concentraciones de los HAPs entre el pasto y suelo (y=2.4109x -11.073, R² = 0.8444, EE= 0.42, P&lt;0.01), así como en pastos y leche cercana a las fuentes de contaminación (y=0.1848x-17.675, EE=3.9E-03, R2=0.9996, P&lt;0.05). Los datos presentados contribuyen a la limitada información sobre la presencia de este grupo de contaminantes orgánicos persistentes en granjas pecuarias en la región del Caribe y se concluye que la leche es inocua, según la regulación de la Unión Europea y los pastos son de bajo riesgo para la salud de los animales.]]></p></abstract>
