<self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S2079-34802019000100001&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S2079-34802019000100001&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S2079-34802019000100001&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract A total of 1,365 milk weighings from 455 goats of Alpine genotype were used, with lactation number between one and six, distributed in five units in the farm "Dagame", belonging to the Empresa Genética "Los Naranjos", located in Artemisa province, where parturitions occurred between 2005 and 2008. The objective was to determine non-genetic factors that affect the persistence of lactation and estimate its correlation with total milk production. A generalized mixed model was applied by the SAS MIXED procedure version 9.3 (2013), where fixed effects like herd, parturition year, parturition season (January- May and June-December) and lactation number were included, as well as the animal nested within each herd as random effect. In addition, the duration of lactation was included as a covariate. To estimate Pearson correlations, the CORR procedure of SAS was applied. Persistence was 53.6 % and the studied non-genetic factors were significant. The phenotypic correlations of persistence with total milk were 0.26. It can be concluded that persistence of lactation had a low phenotypic correlation, in relation to milk production and duration of lactation. Further researches should be conducted with larger samples and genealogical information to recommend its inclusion in genetic improvement programs.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Se utilizaron 1365 pesajes de leche de 455 cabras del genotipo Alpina, con número de lactancia entre uno y seis, distribuidas en cinco unidades de la granja &#8220;Dagame&#8221;, perteneciente a la Empresa Genética &#8220;Los Naranjos&#8221;, ubicada en la provincia de Artemisa, cuyos partos se efectuaron entre 2005 y 2008. El objetivo fue determinar los factores no genéticos que afectan la persistencia de la lactancia y estimar su correlación con la producción de leche total. Se aplicó un modelo generalizado mixto por el procedimiento MIXED del SAS (versión 9.3 (2013), donde se incluyeron como efectos fijos: rebaño, año de parto, época de parto (1 enero-mayo y 2 junio-diciembre) y número de lactancia, y como aleatorio el efecto del animal anidado dentro de cada rebaño. Además, se incluyó la duración de la lactancia como covariable. Para estimar las correlaciones de Pearson, se aplicó el procedimiento CORR del SAS. La persistencia fue de 53.6 %. Los factores no genéticos estudiados fueron significativos. Las correlaciones fenotípicas de la persistencia con leche total fueron de 0.26. Se concluye que la persistencia de la lactancia tuvo correlación fenotípica baja, con relación a la producción de leche y a la duración con la lactancia. Se deben continuar investigaciones en muestras mayores e información genealógica para recomendar su inclusión en los programas de mejora genética.]]></p></abstract>
