The fresh sample constituted the control. Physical properties like sphericity, weight of 1,000 nuts, apparent and real density, as well as porosity, were studied. The content of dry matter, ash, crude protein, ether extract and fiber fractionation were determined. For the variables weight loss and bed temperature, the mixed generalized linear model was used, with repeated measurements over time. Analysis of variance was applied for analyzing physicochemical properties, according to a completely randomized design. Interaction in temperature (sampling hours x treatment) was observed, and there was no effect on weight loss. This last indicator decreased as drying time increased (0.92, 0.79, 0.64, 0.48 kg for 0, 24, 48 and 72 h, respectively, P &lt;0.0001). There were no differences among treatments for physical properties, but there were differences regarding the fresh sample. However, crude protein, ether extract, acid detergent fiber and lignin varied. Results allowed to conclude that the dehydration method did not influence on weight loss nor on palm nuts properties. However, it was found that, out of the three studied methods, the use of solar dryer favors chemical composition of the grain.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Para estudiar el efecto de diferentes métodos de deshidratación en las propiedades fisicoquímicas de las semillas de Roystonea regia (palmiche) se establecieron tres tratamientos que consistieron en tres métodos de secado de la semilla: en estufa a 45 ºC, al aire libre y en secador solar. El control correspondió a la muestra fresca. Se estudiaron las propiedades físicas esfericidad, peso de 1000 semillas, densidad aparente y real, así como la porosidad. Se determinó el contenido de materia seca, cenizas, proteína bruta, extracto etéreo y el fraccionamiento fibroso. Para las variables pérdida de peso y temperatura en la cama, se utilizó el modelo lineal generalizado mixto, con medidas repetidas en el tiempo. Para las propiedades físicoquímicas se aplicó análisis de varianza, según diseño completamente aleatorizado. Se observó interacción en la temperatura (horas de muestreo x tratamiento), y no hubo efecto en la pérdida de peso. Este último indicador disminuyó al aumentar el tiempo de secado (0.92, 0.79, 0.64, 0.48 kg para 0, 24, 48 y 72 h, respectivamente) (P&lt;0.0001). No se observaron diferencias entre tratamientos para las propiedades físicas, pero sí en relación con la muestra fresca. Sin embargo, variaron los indicadores proteína bruta, extracto etéreo, fibra ácido detergente y lignina. Los resultados permiten concluir que el método de deshidratación no influyó en la pérdida de peso ni en las propiedades físicas del palmiche. Sin embargo, se comprobó que entre los tres métodos estudiados, el uso del secador solar favorece la composición química del grano.]]></p></abstract>
