Institutions from Mexico, Colombia and Brazil helped to gather all this information. The document is structured as follows: 1) effect of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae L25/7/13 on ruminal fermentation and milk production, 2) isolation, characterization and molecular identification of yeast strains from the ruminal ecosystem under the edaphoclimatic conditions of Cuba, 3) Effect of Levica-25 (Candida tropicalis) strain on ruminal microbial fermentation of animals that consume fibrous diets and 4) Evaluation of factors affecting the use of yeasts as microbial additives for ruminants (strain, culture medium, inclusion level and diet). This review is a valuable contribution, mainly intended for specialists in nutrition biochemistry, who project the use of viable yeasts as activating additives for ruminal fermentation.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Se compendia la información obtenida en el Instituto de Ciencia Animal de Cuba, en lo que respecta al efecto de aditivos con levaduras viables para rumiantes, que es el resultado de la colaboración de instituciones de México, Colombia y Brasil. El documento tiene la siguiente estructura: 1) Efecto de la levadura Saccharomyces cerevisiae L25/7/13 en la fermentación ruminal y la producción de leche; 2) Aislamiento, caracterización e identificación molecular de cepas de levaduras provenientes del ecosistema ruminal en las condiciones edafoclimáticas de Cuba; 3) Efecto de la cepa Levica-25 (Candida tropicalis) en la fermentación microbiana ruminal de animales que consumen dietas fibrosas y 4) Evaluación de factores que afectan el empleo de levaduras como aditivos microbiales para rumiantes (cepa, medio de cultivo, nivel de inclusión, dieta). Esta información contribuye a la formación de especialistas en bioquímica de la nutrición, que proyectan la utilización de levaduras viables como aditivos activadores de la fermentación ruminal.]]></p></abstract>
