Dietary treatments consisted of a control diet and the inclusion of 24 mg/kg of L-carnitine. The inclusion of L-carnitine did not change (P&gt; 0.05) laying intensity, feed intake, mass conversion and percentage of dirty eggs. However, this experimental treatment (L-carnitine) increased egg weight (63.35 vs. 65.68 g) in relation to control diet (P &lt;0.05). In addition, the inclusion of L-carnitine did not modify (P&gt; 0.05) albumen height, Haugh unit, eggshell strength and yolk color at week 90. However, L-carnitine increased (P &lt;0.05) eggshell thickness with respect to control treatment. At week 95, L-carnitine did not modify (P&gt; 0.05) any indicator of egg external and internal quality. The inclusion of L-carnitine in diets for Hy-Line Brown® laying hens increases egg weight and eggshell thickness at week 90, without significant changes in the other egg quality and productive indicators at week 95 of age.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Para evaluar el efecto de la inclusión de la L-carnitina en la productividad y calidad del huevo de gallinas ponedoras, se distribuyeron al azar en dos tratamientos un total de 200 aves de la línea genética Hy-Line Brown® de 85 semanas de edad, con 20 repeticiones/tratamiento y cinco aves/repetición durante 10 semanas experimentales. Los tratamientos dietéticos consistieron en una dieta control y la inclusión de 24 mg/kg de L-carnitina. La inclusión de L-carnitina no cambió (P &gt; 0.05) la intensidad de puesta, consumo de alimento, conversión masal y porcentaje de huevos sucios. Sin embargo, este tratamiento experimental (L-carnitina) incrementó el peso del huevo (63.35 vs 65.68 g) con relación a la dieta control (P &lt; 0.05). También, en la semana 90, la inclusión de L-carnitina no modificó (P &gt; 0.05) la altura del albumen, unidad Haugh, resistencia a la ruptura de la cáscara y color de la yema. Sin embargo, L-carnitina incrementó (P &lt; 0.05) el grosor de la cáscara del huevo con respecto al tratamiento control. En la semana 95, la L-carnitina no modificó (P &gt; 0.05) ningún indicador de la calidad externa e interna del huevo. La inclusión de L-carnitina en las dietas de gallinas ponedoras Hy-Line Brown® incrementa el peso del huevo y grosor de la cáscara en la semana 90, sin cambios significativos en los otros indicadores productivos y de calidad del huevo en la semana 95 de edad.]]></p></abstract>
