A completely random design was used. The animals were distributed in five treatments with eight repetitions: corn/soybean concentrate control, 5, 10, 15 and 20 % substitution of the concentrate by tithonia forage meal. For the analysis of the immune response, the lymphoid organs (spleen, Bursa of Fabricius and thymus) were extracted and the relative weights (g/g LW x 100 g of the organs) were determined. Blood was extracted from the jugular vein and serum indicators of blood biochemistry, cholesterol, glucose, triglycerides, total protein, albumin, alanine amino transferase enzymes, and aspartate amine transferase and uric acid were analyzed. From the biological point of view (P=0.0593) lower relative weight of the spleen was found for the chickens that received 20 % tithonia forage meal (0.13, 0.12, 0.12, 0.13 and 0.07 g/g LW x100) for 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 % substitution of corn/soybean by tithonia forage meal plant material 10, respectively. The intake levels of tithonia forage meal in broilers did not influence on the indicators of blood biochemistry, with the exception of uric acid, which increased with 15 % and 20 % substitution. These results suggest the possibility of using Tithonia diversifolia forage meal plant material 10, in a corn/soybean diet up to levels of 10 % for broilers in the finishing stage, without causing damage to the animals health.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN Se utilizaron 40 pollos de ceba machos EB34, de 42 días de edad, para evaluar el efecto del consumo de harina de forraje de Tithonia diversifolia, material vegetal 10, en indicadores de la respuesta inmune y bioquímica sanguínea. Se utilizó un diseño completamente aleatorizado. Los animales se distribuyeron en cinco tratamientos con ocho repeticiones: control concentrado de maíz/soya, 5, 10,15 y 20 % de sustitución del concentrado por harina de forraje de tithonia. Para el análisis de la respuesta inmune, se extrajeron los órganos linfoides (bazo, bolsa de Fabricio y timo) y se determinaron los pesos relativos (g/g PV x 100 g de los órganos). Se extrajo sangre de la vena yugular y se analizaron indicadores séricos de la bioquímica sanguínea, colesterol, glucosa, triglicéridos, proteínas totales, albúmina, las enzimas alanino amino transferasa, y aspartato amina transferasa y ácido úrico. Se halló desde el punto de vista biológico (P=0.0593) menor peso relativo del bazo para los pollos que recibieron 20 % de harina de forraje de tithonia (0.13, 0.12, 0.12, 0.13 y 0.07 g/gPV x100) para 0, 5, 10, 15 y 20 % de sustitución de maíz/ soya por harina de forraje de tithonia material vegetal 10, respectivamente. Los niveles de consumo de harina de forraje de tithonia en pollos de ceba no influyeron en los indicadores de la bioquímica sanguínea, con la excepción del ácido úrico que aumentó con 15 % y 20 % de sustitución. Estos resultados sugieren la posibilidad de utilizar harina de forraje de Tithonia diversifolia, material vegetal 10, en una dieta de maíz/soya hasta niveles de 10 % para pollos de ceba en la etapa de finalización, sin ocasionar daños en la salud de los animales.]]></p></abstract>
