In the first, seven culture media were evaluated for yeast growth at 24 hours of fermentation. While in the second, growth kinetics was performed in the selected medium of the first test. In addition, in the latter, the maximum specific growth rate, the biomass doubling time, and the stoichiometric balance of the selected medium were determined. At 24 hours of fermentation, there were not differences between the media studied and the YPG medium (p=0.073). Therefore, the latter can be replaced without affecting the strain growth in 24 h. In the kinetic study, there was a higher microbial concentration at 12 h (P&lt;0.0001) in the medium containing molasses and urea. The maximum specific growth rate was lower (P=0.0260) and the biomass doubling time was higher (P=0.0283) with respect to the control. The selected medium constitutes an adequate option for the production of LEVICA-27, since it allows obtaining good cell concentration, covering the nutritional requirements and includes fewer components in its preparation. This offers economic and operational advantages for obtaining the additive at production scales.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN Para seleccionar un medio de cultivo no convencional para el crecimiento de Pichia guilliermondii LEVICA-27 como aditivo activador de la fermentación ruminal, se realizaron dos ensayos en los que se utilizó caldo YPG (extracto de levadura 10 g/L, peptona 10 g/L y glucosa 20 g/L) como medio control. En el primero, se evaluaron siete medios de cultivo para el crecimiento de la levadura a las 24 horas de fermentación. Mientras que en el segundo, se realizó la cinética de crecimiento en el medio seleccionado del primer ensayo. Además, en este último se determinó la velocidad específica máxima de crecimiento, el tiempo de duplicación de la biomasa y se realizó el balance estequiométrico del medio seleccionado. A las 24 horas de fermentación, no se encontraron diferencias entre los medios estudiados y el caldo YPG (p=0.073). Por tanto, este último se puede sustituir sin que se afecte el crecimiento de la cepa en 24 h. En el estudio de la cinética, se presentó mayor concentración microbiana a las 12 h (P&lt;0.0001) en el medio que contenía melaza y urea. La velocidad específica máxima de crecimiento fue inferior (P=0.0260) y el tiempo de duplicación de la biomasa fue superior (P=0.0283) con respecto al control. El medio seleccionado constituye una opción adecuada para la producción de LEVICA-27, pues permite obtener buena concentración celular, cubrir los requerimientos nutricionales e incluye menos componentes en su preparación. Esto ofrece ventajas económicas y operacionales para la obtención del aditivo a escalas productivas.]]></p></abstract>
