Two bioassays were carried out, according to a completely random design with three repetitions. In the growth stage, a total of 225 small fish of 1.03 ± 0.03 g of initial weight were used, distributed in three treatments (0, 3 and 5 % of zeolite). Similarly, in fattening, a total of 135 animals of 10.12 ± 0.05 g of initial weight were used in three treatments (0, 5 and 7 %). A decrease in the protein supplied/fish was recorded, when the levels of zeolite in the rations increased. However, the indicators of growth, feed efficiency and survival were not disadvantaged up to 5 % in the small fish feed and 7 % in the fattening feed. The economic analysis showed that the use of zeolite decreases the costs of the rations and contributes with amounts of earnings for feeding. It is concluded that the partial replacement of up to 5 % of the raw matters by natural zeolite in the small fish feed and 7 % in the fattening feed does not compromise the productive performance of Clarias gariepinus; in addition to having a positive economic effect.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Se evaluó el reemplazo parcial de 3, 5 y 7 % de cada materia prima por zeolita natural cubana en formulaciones de piensos de alevinaje y engorde de Clarias gariepinus. Se realizaron dos bioensayos, según diseño completamente aleatorizado con tres repeticiones. En la etapa de crecimiento, se emplearon 225 alevines de 1.03 ± 0.03 g de peso inicial, distribuidos en tres tratamientos (0, 3 y 5 % de zeolita). De igual forma, en el engorde se utilizaron 135 animales de 10.12 ± 0.05 g de peso inicial en tres tratamientos (0, 5 y 7 %). Se registró disminución de la proteína suministrada/pez, al incrementar los contenidos de zeolita en las raciones. Sin embargo, no se desfavorecieron los indicadores de crecimiento, eficiencia alimentaria y supervivencia hasta 5 % en el pienso de alevinaje y 7 % en el de engorde. El análisis económico mostró que la utilización de zeolita disminuye los costos de las raciones y contribuye con montos de ganancias por concepto de alimentación. Se concluye que el reemplazo parcial de hasta 5 % de las materias primas por zeolita natural en el pienso de alevinaje y 7 % en el de engorde, no compromete el comportamiento productivo de Clarias gariepinus; además de tener efecto económico positivo.]]></p></abstract>
