En la era digital, los profesionales de la salud continúan cumpliendo su función promocional y educativa. El presente artículo se propuso como objetivo describir algunos recursos disponibles en internet que sirvan de punto de partida para guiar a los pacientes y sus familiares en la obtención de información médica confiable. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y revisión de la literatura sobre algunos de los recursos proveedores de información médica para pacientes disponibles en internet. Entre ellos: MedlinePlus, un servicio informativo de salud para público general; Manuales Merck, uno de los recursos médicos integrales más utilizados para los profesionales y los pacientes; y las páginas web de Mayo Clinic, el National Health Service (NHS) del Reino Unido y WebMD. Se efectuó una breve descripción técnica de las páginas seleccionadas, se señalaron fortalezas y recomendaciones para fortalecer las competencias informacionales en el público general. Se complementaron los resultados con imágenes descriptivas de los sitios y direcciones web para acceder a los recursos propuestos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT The exponential increase in the generation of content on the Internet has allowed a greater flow of scientific information in the field of health. In the digital age, healthcare professionals continue to fulfill their promotional and educational role. The objective of this article was to describe some resources available on the internet that serve as a starting point to guide patients and their families in obtaining reliable medical information. A descriptive study and review of the literature was carried out on some of the medical information provider resources for patients available on the internet. Among them: MedlinePlus, a health information service for the general public; Merck Manuals, one of the most widely used comprehensive medical resources for professionals and patients; and the websites of Mayo Clinic, the UK National Health Service (NHS) and WebMD. A brief technical description of the selected pages was made, strengths and recommendations were pointed out to strengthen informational competencies in the general public. The results were complemented with descriptive images of the sites and web addresses to access the proposed resources.]]></p></abstract>
