Las estadísticas lo describen como la primera causa de mortalidad a nivel global según ha reportado la Organización Mundial de la Salud. Por lo que resulta de vital importancia conocer acerca de la epidemiología de esta enfermedad, su distribución, su incidencia y las causas de mayor mortalidad. Se realizó la búsqueda de información en las bases de datos: Scielo, Dialnet, Pubmed y Scopus desde enero de 2020 hasta enero de 2023. Se limitó la búsqueda a los artículos en idioma inglés y español con el objetivo de describir el cáncer como problema de salud en la actualidad y la importancia de los métodos de detección para su prevención. El cáncer como primera causa de mortalidad representa un desafío para la comunidad científica, por ello, es importante conocer e implementar medidas preventivas y los medios diagnósticos para disminuir su prevalencia.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Cancer is a disease of great impact on the health of contemporary societies. Statistics describe it as the leading cause of mortality globally as reported by the World Health Organization. Therefore, it is vitally important to know about the epidemiology of this disease, its distribution, its incidence and the causes of higher mortality. The information search was carried out in the databases: Scielo, Dialnet, Pubmed and Scopus from January 2020 to January 2023. The search was limited to articles in English and Spanish with the objective of describing cancer as a problem of health today and the importance of detection methods for its prevention. Cancer as the first cause of mortality represents a challenge for the scientific community, therefore, it is important to know and implement preventive measures and diagnostic means to reduce its prevalence.]]></p></abstract>
