Los principales ácidos grasos presentes en este aceite son los &#945;-linolénico y linoleico, muy importantes para la prevención de la enfermedad coronaria y la hipertensión, mostrando un efecto hipocolesterolémico. En nuestro país se ha cultivado la planta y se ha obtenido este aceite. Sin embargo, hasta el presente no se han realizado estudios toxicológicos preclínicos que evalúen la toxicidad del aceite de origen cubano, por lo que el objetivo del trabajo fue determinar la toxicidad oral por dosis únicas del aceite de Sacha inchi en ratas Sprague Dawley, utilizando el método de las clases de toxicidad aguda. Los animales tratados recibieron una dosis única de 2000 mg/kg de peso corporal del aceite de Sacha inchi, luego fueron observados en diferentes intervalos durante las primeras 24 horas y diariamente los restantes días. El peso corporal se controló al inicio, a los siete días y al final de la experiencia. El consumo de alimento se registró diariamente. Pasados 14 días de la administración, se realizó la necropsia de todos los animales, el estudio macroscópico reveló que ningún animal presentó lesiones en las cavidades y órganos examinados. No hubo muertes durante la experiencia y no se encontraron diferencias significativas en el peso corporal y el consumo de alimentos entre animales tratados y controles. El aceite de Sacha inchi presenta una toxicidad intrínseca baja, mostrando una toxicidad por dosis orales únicas superior a los 2000 mg/kg de peso corporal, dosis a la que no se evidencian signos indicativos de toxicidad en ninguno de los sexos, por lo que su toxicidad se puede declarar como no clasificable según el método evaluado.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Sacha inchi oil has great nutritional value due to its high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E. The main fatty acids present in this oil are &#945;-linolenic and linoleic, very important for the prevention of coronary heart disease and hypertension, showing a hypocholesterolemic effect. In our country the plant has been cultivated and this oil has been obtained. However, until now preclinical toxicological studies evaluating the toxicity of oil of Cuban origin have not been carried out, so the objective of the work was to determine oral toxicity by single doses of Sacha inchi oil in Sprague Dawley rats using the acute toxic class method. The treated animals received a single dose of 2000 mg/kg of body weight of Sacha inchi oil, then they were observed at different intervals during the first 24 hours and daily for the remaining days. Body weight was controlled at the beginning, at seven days and at the end of the experience. Food consumption was recorded daily. After 14 days of the administration, the necropsy of all the animals was performed, the macroscopic study revealed that no animal presented lesions in the cavities and organs examined. There were no deaths during the experience and no significant differences were found in body weights and food consumption between treated and control animals. The oil of Sacha inchi presents a low intrinsic toxicity, showing a toxicity by single oral doses higher than 2000 mg/kg of body weight, dose at which no indicative signs of toxicity are evidenced, so that its toxicity can be declared as not classifiable according to the method evaluated.]]></p></abstract>
