Objetivo: Obtener un índice global que integre todos los aspectos del proceso biorreproductivo del rebaño con una estructura que facilite su aplicación en cualquier escenario.  Métodos:  Se construyó un índice global de eficiencia biorreproductiva a partir de dos índices parciales o componentes básicos: hembras en desarrollo y nacimientos en las vacas; todos ellos se interpretan en base a la desviación de los valores con respecto a la unidad (cumplimiento del objetivo) con tres niveles de acreditación para alcanzar la eficiencia reproductiva deseada. Para ilustrar el uso de la metodología propuesta se realizó una simulación en un rebaño compuesto por 117 vacas de estas 54 nulíparas con un nivel de acreditación medio (edad al primer parto e intervalo entre partos de 32 y 16 meses, respectivamente) y periodicidad mensual.  Resultados:  Los valores obtenidos: para el índice parcial de nacimientos en las vacas fueron (0,82), el índice parcial de hembras en desarrollo (1,19) y el índice global de eficiencia biorreproductiva (1,01) indican que el rebaño mantiene su nivel de acreditación. La evaluación también puede ser agregada transversalmente y en cualquier unidad de tiempo a evaluar o seriada longitudinalmente y representa un sistema de mejoramiento continuo de la eficiencia biorreproductiva del rebaño hasta alcanzar los límites biológicamente permisibles.  Conclusiones:  Se brinda una metodología para construir un índice global personalizado que evalúe la eficiencia biorreproductiva del rebaño y el desempeño del productor.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Background:  Several indicators have been used to evaluate herd reproductive efficiency with serious limitations. Objective: To achieve a global index that integrates all the aspects of herd biorreproductive process, using a structure that facilitates application in any scenario.  Methods: A global index of reproductive efficiency was created based on two partial indexes or basic components in cattle: growing females and births of cows, all interpreted thorugh deviation of values in relation to the unit (accomplished goal), using three levels of accreditation of desired reproductive efficiency. A simulation was performed to illustrate the utilization of the methodology suggested, in a 117-cow herd, of which 54 were nulliparous, with a mid accreditation level (age at first calving and calving intervals of 32 and 16 months, respectively), and monthly periodicity.  Results:  The values achieved in partial cow births (0.82), partial index of growing females (1.19), and global index of biorreproductive efficiency (1.01) indicated that the herd kept its levels of accreditation. This evaluation may also be added transversally and at any time unit used, or be seriated longitudinally, establishing a system of continuous improvement of herd biorreproductive efficiency, until reaching biologically permissible limits. Conclusions: A methodology is suggested to build a customized global index to evaluate herd biorreproductive efficiency and farmer performance.]]></p></abstract>
