Objetivo. Realizar un resumen de los principales conceptos, tendencias y perspectivas, en relación con la eficiencia reproductiva de los sistemas vacunos en inseminación artificial.  Desarrollo: Existen diferentes criterios para definir a la eficiencia reproductiva, se realiza un análisis de este aspecto y lo complejo de su evaluación en la práctica por las diferencias existentes entre los sistemas de producción y sus metas establecidas, que son más evidentes entre los sistemas de pariciones anuales y los estacionales. Se define un nuevo concepto de eficiencia reproductiva aplicable a cualquier sistema.  Conclusiones: Se brinda una definición de la eficiencia reproductiva basada en en la fertilidad de los progenitores, la rentabilidad, la intervención del hombre y la acción del ambiente. Se valoran como alternativas zootécnicas la estacionalidad asociada a la inseminación artificial a tiempo fijo (IATF) y el control de la reproducción a través de la metodología del índice global de eficiencia biorreproductiva (IgEBR).]]></p></abstract>
