Spreng es una leguminosa usada en la agricultura, la ganadería y la medicina por sus potencialidades y cualidades biológicas, sin embargo, la literatura consultada resulta, en parte, del siglo anterior. Por tal motivo, el presente trabajo tiene el propósito de recopilar y actualizar información sobre las características botánicas y bondades de esta especie.  Desarrollo:  Se actualizan diferentes datos generales de la especie, como su ubicación taxonómica, distribución y las principales características botánicas. Además, se ofrece información sobre la siembra y el establecimiento, con énfasis en la utilización de métodos novedosos de escarificación para lograr un alto porcentaje de germinación. Se demuestra que T. labialis es una leguminosa con adecuados rendimientos y valor nutritivo, resaltando su alta palatabilidad por el ganado bovino y ovino. La planta se usa preferentemente en pastoreo, tanto en monocultivo como asociaciones, pero su mayor potencial radica en los sistemas de integración, agricultura-ganadería, a partir de sus beneficios en los ecosistemas de cultivos perennes. En estos sistemas se logra el mejoramiento de las características físico-químicas y biológicas del suelo y el control de plantas indeseables, sin afectaciones al cultivo principal, así como adecuados incrementos de peso de los animales sin necesidad de suplementación proteica.  Conclusiones:  En correspondencia con los argumentos expuestos, se considera que T. labialis resulta una leguminosa con excelentes perspectivas en Cuba para el desarrollo de sistemas agrícolas, especialmente de aquellos que integran agricultura y ganadería.]]></p></abstract>
