El objetivo de este trabajo fue caracterizar los estudios registrados en clinicaltrials.gov sobre telesalud en Latinoamérica. Se hizo un estudio descriptivo donde se evaluaron las investigaciones sobre telesalud en Latinoamérica registradas hasta el año 2018 en clinicaltrials.gov. Se evaluó el tipo de estudio relacionado con enfermedad o tema, país, iniciativa y tipo de institución. Se localizaron 37 trabajos registrados. Los referidos a telesalud fueron principalmente ensayos controlados de tipo asignación paralela (81,1 %). Las enfermedades más abordadas fueron: hipertensión arterial (23,9 %), diabetes (11,3 %) y enfermedades cardiovasculares (9,9 %). El 64,9 % de los trabajos fueron de iniciativa local, en los que resultaron Brasil (29,3 %) y Argentina (14,6 %) los países con mayor número de investigaciones. En conclusión, existe una baja cantidad de estudios latinoamericanos registrados en clinicaltrials.gov, los cuales se enfocaron principalmente en enfermedades crónicas y fueron desarrollados por iniciativa local. Se requieren más ensayos clínicos controlados aleatorizados sobre telesalud en el contexto latinoamericano para ayudar a consolidar su desarrollo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT The characteristics and trends of telehealth research in Latin America, especially clinical trials, have been little explored. The objective was to characterize the studies registered in clinicaltrials.gov about telehealth in Latin America. We performed an observational and descriptive study and evaluated the telehealth research in Latin America registered until 2018 in clinicaltrials.gov. The type of study, disease, country, initiative and type of institution were evaluated. We found 37 studies registered. The studies on telehealth were mainly clinical trials of parallel assignment type (81.1%). The most discussed diseases were: arterial hypertension (23.9%), diabetes (11.3%) and cardiovascular diseases (9.9%). The 64.9% of the works were local initiatives, being Brazil (29.3%) and Argentina (14.6%) the countries with the highest number of investigations. In conclusion, there is a low number of Latin American studies registered in clinicaltrials.gov, the studies focused mainly on chronic diseases and were developed by local initiative. We need more clinical trials on telehealth in the Latin American context to help to consolidate its development.]]></p></abstract>
