Para ello, se determinó la dispersión de las semillas en parcelas de 1 x 1 m., ubicadas cada 2 m. a lo largo de cuatro transectos radiales de 50 m. de longitud, partiendo desde el tronco, orientados hacia los cuatro puntos cardinales, desde la base del árbol donante de semillas. Como resultado, se obtuvo que la densidad de las semillas de Juglans jamaicensis, dispersadas en la superficie del suelo, declinó marcadamente con la distancia desde la planta, lo que determinó una distancia máxima de dispersión de semillas de 23 m., mientras que la distancia media de dispersión alrededor de los árboles fue de 13 m. y albergó el 84 % de las semillas. Asimismo, la dispersión de semillas varió entre los puntos cardinales, lo que generó un patrón de distribución asimétrico fuertemente determinado por la pendiente del terreno. Además, la distribución de las semillas en la superficie del suelo se comportó a razón de 12 semillas por m2 por lo que la especie forma un banco pequeño de semillas, en condiciones naturales. Estos elementos constituyen indicadores de fragilidad de la especie frente a perturbaciones y factores externos, así como del patrón de distribución agregado de la especie en el bosque.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT This work was carried out in two Zonal Units of Conservation of the Turquino National Park, with the seeds of seven trees in six locations, to characterize the dispersal of the seeds of Juglansjamaicensis subsp. jamaicensis in a protected area of national significance. For this, it was determined the dispersion of the seeds in parcels of 1 x 1 m located each 2 m along four 50-m length radial transects, guided toward the four cardinal points, from the base of the donating tree of seeds. Results revealed that the density of the seeds of Juglansjamaicensis dispersed on the surface of the ground, declined markedly with the distance from the plant. Maximum seed-dispersal distance was 23 m, and average distance was 13 m around the trees, comprising 84 % of dispersed seeds. Seed dispersal varied among the cardinal points, resulting in an asymmetric distribution pattern biased toward the north, as consequence of the land slope. Seed density on the ground surface averages 12 seeds per m2, forming a small seed bank under natural conditions. These elements constitute indicators of fragility of the species in front of interferences and external factors as well as the contagious distribution pattern of the species in the forest.]]></p></abstract>
