<self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S2664-08802020000400003&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S2664-08802020000400003&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S2664-08802020000400003&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN La presente investigación tiene como objetivo general estudiar los cambios observados en los indicadores de extremos climáticos derivados de temperaturas extremas invernales en el período 1981-2016 en el occidente de Cuba y determinar la influencia que ejercen El Niño-Oscilación del Sur (ENOS), la Oscilación Ártica (AO) y la Oscilación del Atlántico Norte (NAO) sobre los extremos climáticos. Para ello, se relacionaron indicadores de extremos climáticos derivados de las temperaturas extremas con patrones atmosféricos de teleconexión, los cuales tienen gran influencia en el comportamiento interanual y multianual del clima cubano. Se emplearon métodos estadísticos como el análisis de clúster para estudiar el comportamiento de las variables y el análisis de componentes principales para determinar la influencia del ENOS, la AO, y la NAO sobre indicadores de extremos climáticos. Uno de los resultados principales reflejó un incremento en los días y noches cálidas y una disminución de los días y noches frías. Además, se obtuvo que cuando se incrementan los valores de los índices de teleconexión estudiados, disminuyen los eventos fríos y se incrementan los cálidos; los patrones de teleconexión que mejor explicaron la variabilidad observada fueron la AO y la NAO.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT This investigation has as main objective to study the observed changes on temperature climate extremes from winter in the period 1981-2016 in western Cuba and to determine the influence of El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO), the Arctic Oscillation (AO) and North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) on climate extremes. Temperature climate extremes were related to teleconnection patterns, which have great influence in the interannual and multiannual behavior of the Cuban climate. Statistical methods such as cluster analysis were used to study the variables, and principal component analysis was used to determine the influence of ENSO, AO and NAO on the climate extremes. As result, climate extreme indices reflected an increase in the warm days and warm nights, while less cold days and cold nights were found. In general, the results shown that if the teleconnection indexes increase, then cold events decrease and warm events increase. Besides, AO and NAO were the teleconnection patterns that better explain the observed variability.]]></p></abstract>
