Por primera vez en el país, se describe un sistema de osteosíntesis mediante el enclavado intramedular en combinación con un sistema de fijación esquelética externa usando cuatro clavos roscados y una barra de Metilmetacrilato en un animal de fauna silvestre. Se describe la colocación del clavo intramedular totalmente intraóseo, mediante una guía artesanal, con lo cual se evita la presencia de segmentos del clavo que sobresalgan por la fosa del trocánter mayor; de esta manera se evitan migraciones, seromas, molestias y otras repercusiones negativas. El paciente fue ubicado en su cubil y atendido en el posoperatorio con antibióticos y analgésicos. Se retiró el fijador esquelético externo a los 21 días, al verificar la presencia de callo óseo por palpación y radiografía. El paciente en las primeras semanas solo caminaba en horario nocturno y, a partir de los 28 días posquirúrgico, comenzó a caminar sin claudicación en la mañana y en la noche. Mostró total recuperación a los 75 días posterior a la intervención quirúrgica.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT The surgical resolution of a femoral fracture is presented in a Puma concolor puppy belonging to the National Zoo of Cuba. For the first time in the country, an osteosynthesis system is described by intramedullary nailing in combination with an external skeletal fixation system using four threaded nails and a Methylmethacrylate bar in a wildlife animal. The placement of the intramedullary nailing completely intraosseous is described by means of an artisanal guide, which avoids the presence of nailing segments that protrude through the trochanteric fossa. In this way, migrations, seromas, discomforts and other negative repercussions are avoided. The animal was placed in its lair for postoperative treatment with antibiotics and analgesics. The external skeletal fixator was removed at 21 days, when verifying the presence of bony callus by palpation and radiography. The animal only walked at night in the first weeks, and 28 days postoperatively, it began walking in the morning and at night. It showed total recovery at 75 days after surgery.]]></p></abstract>
