Entre los agentes contaminantes se encuentran los plaguicidas organoclorados, donde el heptacloro y su metabolito, el epóxido de heptacloro, juegan un papel importante. La selección de este compuesto responde a su naturaleza persistente, a los efectos de aplicaciones excesivas del heptacloro en prácticas agropecuarias, las cuales han generado residualidad objetable en medios abióticos y bióticos, así como a la ausencia de legislación en su producción y manejo en el territorio mexicano y a evidencias de su acción tóxica. En esta revisión se describe información sobre los niveles ecológicos y sanitarios que convergen en la alimentación; se mencionan evidencias de daños genéticos y metabólicos y se analizan algunos mecanismos de acción relacionados con el sistema perturbado por las exposiciones masivas del xenobiótico.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Environmental pollution is in force and it has obvious effects on the environment resources, the populations of organisms, human health, and food. Among the pollutants are the organochlorine pesticides, where heptachlor, its metabolite and heptachlor epoxide, play an important role. Heptachlor has a persistent nature. The effects of its excessive applications in agricultural practices have generated objectionable residuals in abiotic and biotic environments. There is no legislation regarding its production and management in the Mexican territory and there are evidences of its toxic action in such region. In this review, information on the ecological and health levels converging in food is described. Evidence of the genetic and metabolic damages is mentioned, and some mechanisms of action related to the system disturbed by the mass exposures of the xenobiotic are analyzed.]]></p></abstract>
