Se muestrearon 270 vacas raza Holstein Freisan mayores de seis meses. Se detectó la presencia de anticuerpos contra Brucella abortus mediante la prueba de aglutinación en tarjeta (rosa de Bengala) y la prueba de rivanol. Para la evaluación de los factores asociados a la infección por brucelosis, se aplicaron encuestas epidemiológicas a los ganaderos y/o propietarios. Los resultados mostraron una prevalencia a B. abortus de 31,8 %, con un promedio de 5,733b positivos a brucela. En el 80 % de los hatos no existía un área de cuarentena y control de procedencia de las nuevas incorporaciones. Se advirtió la falta de retiro de excretas (80 %), de placenta y otros desechos del parto (13,33 %). Solo el 13,34 % de los productores tenían las instalaciones y el material específico para el manejo de los bovinos. El 46,66 % de los hatos tenían gatos que convivían con las vacas, además de compartir caminos de desplazamiento con otros hatos (46,66 %). Se concluye que existía correlación baja (r=0,4), estimada entre la seroprevalencia de brucelosis y los factores evaluados: el productor trabajaba en un solo hato, el ganado tenía contacto con perros, las mascotas tenían acceso a fuente de alimentación y agua, así como en la presencia de abortos. Por ello, es recomendable implementar un programa de divulgación basado en la normatividad para la prevención y control de la enfermedad.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT In order to identify the factors associated with brucellosis infection, a cross-sectional and descriptive study was carried out in dairy cattle herds from Xochimilco, Mexico City, Mexico. Two hundred and seventy Holstein Freisan cows, older than 6 months, were sampled. The presence of antibodies against Brucella abortus was detected by the card agglutination test (Rose Bengal) and the rivanol test. Epidemiological surveys were applied to farmers and/or owners to evaluate the factors associated with brucellosis infection. The results obtained showed a B. abortus prevalence of 31.8 %, with an average of 5,733b positive for brucella. In 80 % of the herds, there was no quarantine and provenance control area for new additions. The lack of removal of excreta (80 %), placenta and other wastes from childbirth (13.33 %) was noted. Only 13.34 % of the producers had the facilities and specific material for the management of cattle, 46.66 % of the herds had cats living with cows, besides sharing travel paths with other herds (46.66 %). It is concluded that there was a low correlation (r=0.4) estimated between the brucellosis seroprevalence and the factors evaluated: the producer worked in a single herd, cattle had contact with dogs, pets having access to food and water sources, as well as the presence of abortions. Therefore, it is advisable to implement a dissemination program based on regulations for the prevention and control of the disease.]]></p></abstract>
