Como una alternativa para el control de este insecto, se utiliza el control biológico mediante el uso de hongos entomopatógenos. El objetivo de este estudio fue seleccionar y caracterizar ecofisiológicamente un hongo entomopatógeno debido a su alta eficacia y crecimiento a diferentes condiciones de temperatura, pH y radiación UV-B. Se evaluó la actividad biológica de diez aislamientos de Beauveria bassiana y Metarhizium spp. sobre C. tingomariana bajo condiciones de laboratorio. Los aislamientos Bv003 y Bv060 de B. bassiana se seleccionaron con una concentración letal media CL50 de 5,6 x 104 conidios/mL para Bv003 y de 5,8 x 105 conidios/mL para el aislamiento Bv060, siendo el aislamiento Bv003, 10,4 veces más virulento que Bv060. Al evaluar la eficacia en condiciones de invernadero se obtuvieron eficacias del 54,5 % y 79,5 %, respectivamente. Ambos aislamientos presentaron crecimiento óptimo a pH de 5 a 7, en contraste, temperaturas superiores a 30°C y tiempos de exposición a la radiación UV-B superiores a 18,8 minutos, afectaron de forma significativa el crecimiento de los hongos entomopatógenos con una mayor tasa de crecimiento para el hongo Bv003. El aislamiento de B. bassiana Bv003 fue seleccionado por su potencial para ser utilizado como ingrediente activo de un bioplaguicida para el control de C. tingomariana en el cultivo de soya debido a su alta virulencia y mayor tolerancia a radiación UV-B.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Cerotoma tingomariana (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), is one of the major pests that affect soybean crops, which can significantly reduce crop yield. The use of entomopathogenic fungi (EPF), an alternative method of control, has come into the prominence. To contribute in the management of the pest, the objective of this study was to select and characterize an entomopathogenic fungus by high efficacy and tolerance to temperature, pH and UV-B radiation. Ten fungal isolates of the fungus Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium spp. were tested against C. tingomariana under laboratory conditions. Bv003 and Bv060 isolates were selected with mean values of LC50 were 5.6 x 104 and 5.8 x 10 5 conidia/mL, respectively. Bv003 was 10,4 times more virulent than Bv060. At greenhouse condition, efficacies 54.5 % and 79.5 % were obtained with the application of LC90 to adults of C. tingomariana, respectively. Both isolates had an optimal growth at pH range of 5-7, in contrast, the fungal growth was inhibited at temperatures above 30 °C and by exposure to UV-B radiation above 18,8 minutes. Finally, the isolate Bv003 was selected as a microorganism with the potential to be used as biopesticide for the control of C. tingomariana in soybean crops.]]></p></abstract>
