Moench cv. Corpoica JJT-18 en siembras en monocultivo e intercalado con maíz y frijol, se realizó un experimento en la región Caribe en Colombia, en el cual se evaluaron cinco tratamientos que consistieron en la siembra de S. bicolor cv. Corpoica JJT-18 en monocultivo y en intercalamiento con Zea mays L. y Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp. Se utilizó un diseño de bloques completos al azar con tres repeticiones. El rendimiento del forraje verde de S. bicolor en monocultivo (77,92 t ha-1) fue significativamente superior al del maíz (61,04 t ha-1), y no se observaron incrementos significativos por efecto del intercalamiento. Por su parte, la productividad total de forraje verde en los sistemas intercalados fue de 84,58; 86,67 y 82,92 t ha-1 en sorgo/frijol, sorgo/maíz y sorgo/maíz/frijol, respectivamente. Los análisis bromatológicos indicaron que el forraje verde producido por el sorgo dulce presentó una calidad nutricional similar a la del maíz en el contenido de PC, FDN y FDA, y superior en los sólidos solubles. Por el contrario, la degradabilidad in situ y el contenido de materia seca fueron superiores en el forraje verde de maíz. Se concluye que S. bicolor es una alternativa viable para la sustitución del maíz en sistemas de producción de forraje verde, para la suplementación animal en el caribe colombiano.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract In order to evaluate the productivity and green forage quality of Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench cv. Corpoica JJT-18 in monoculture and intercropped with corn and beans, a trial was conducted in the Caribbean region of Colombia, in which five treatments were evaluated consisting in sowing S. bicolor cv. Corpoica JJT-18 in monoculture and intercropped with Zea mays L. and Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp. A completely randomized design was used with three repetitions. The green forage yield of S. bicolor in monoculture (77,92 t ha-1) was significantly higher than that of corn (61,04 t ha-1), and no significant increases were observed because of intercropping. On the other hand, the total green forage productivity in the intercropped systems was 84,58; 86,67 and 82,92 t ha-1 in sorghum/beans, sorghum/corn and sorghum/corn/beans, respectively. The bromatological analyses indicated that the green forage produced by sweet sorghum showed a nutritional quality similar to corn in the CP, NDF and ADF content, and higher in soluble solids. On the contrary, in situ degradability and dry matter content were higher in the green forage of corn. It is concluded that S. bicolor is a viable alternative for substituting corn in green forage production systems, for animal supplementation in the Colombian Caribbean.]]></p></abstract>
