Sin embargo, no se han realizado estudios fitoquímicos de esta planta. Objetivo: realizar un tamizaje fitoquímico de los extractos etéreo, metanólico y acuoso de las partes aéreas (hojas y tallos) de la especie Scutellaria havanensis Jacq. Métodos: se recolectaron las partes aéreas frescas y se extrajeron con éter dietílico, metanol y agua. Los extractos se filtraron y se les realizaron las pruebas fitoquímicas de identificación. Resultados: en el extracto etéreo se identificaron alcaloides, coumarinas, triterpenos y esteroides; en los extractos acuoso y metanólico se encontraron alcaloides, grupos aminos, azúcares, flavonoides, quinonas y resinas; mientras que en el extracto acuoso se detectaron saponinas y principios amargos. Conclusiones: Scutellaria havanensis, planta endémica cubana, contiene varios grupos de compuestos como flavonoides, alcaloides, entre otros, que pudieran tener interés farmacológico potencial. Estos resultados constituyen un apoyo para continuar los estudios fítoquímicos y farmacológicos de los diversos extractos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Introduction: Scutellaria havanensis Jacq. species, known as Escudo de La Habana (Havana skullcap), is an endemic Cuban plant, etnomedically used for the treatment of scabies and as a diaphoretic and a febrifuge. However, no phytochemical study of this plant has been made so far. Objective: to conduct a phytochemical study of the ethereal, methanol and aqueous extracts from aerial parts (leaves and stems) of Scutellaria havanensis Jacq. species. Methods: fresh aerial parts were harvested and extracts were obtained with diethyl ether, methanol and water. The extracts were filtered and subjected to the phytochemical identification tests. Results: alkaloids, coumarins, triterpenes and steroids were identified in the ethereal extracts, whereas alkaloids, amino groups, sugars, flavonoids, quinones and resins were found in the methanol and aqueous extracts, and saponins and bitter principles in the aqueous extract. Conclusions: Scutellaria havanensis, an endemic Cuban plant, contains several groups of compounds of potential pharmacological interest like flavonoids and alkaloids, among others. These results encourage continuing the phytochemical and pharmacological studies of several extracts.]]></p></abstract>

<body><![CDATA[<P><font face="Verdana" size="2">El g&eacute;nero <I>Scutellaria</I>,  que pertenece a la familia Lamiaceae, se encuentra ampliamente distribuido en  el mundo, incluye alrededor de 300 especies y es f&aacute;cilmente reconocido  por su c&aacute;liz inusual.<SUP>1,2</SUP> Sus extractos y compuestos, principalmente  flavonoides presentes en toda la planta, han mostrado propiedades antioxidantes,  antiinflamatorias, ansiol&iacute;ticas, neuroprotectoras, antitromb&oacute;ticas,  anticancer&iacute;genas, antimicrobianas y antivirales.<SUP>3-14</SUP> </font>      <P><font face="Verdana" size="2"><I>Scutellaria havanensis </I>Jacq., com&uacute;nmente  llamada escudo de La Habana (<I>Havana skullcaps</I>, en ingl&eacute;s), es la  &uacute;nica especie de este g&eacute;nero que crece en Cuba.<SUP>15</SUP> <I>S.  havanensis</I> es una hierba perenne, amarga y peque&ntilde;a; de tallos muy delgados  con ramificaciones. Presenta flores muy atractivas de color azul oscuro (3-7 mm),  solitarias, axilares con c&aacute;liz bilabiado. Sus hojas son aovadas, cortamente  pecioladas, puberulentas en ambas caras y poco dentadas o enteras (8-9 mm). Crece  silvestre sobre las rocas y elevaciones medianas cerca de las costas.</font>     <P><font face="Verdana" size="2">  Esta planta<i> S. havanensis</i>, end&eacute;mica de Cuba, solo se utiliza desde  el punto de vista etnom&eacute;dico para el tratamiento de la escabiosis, como  diafor&eacute;tico y febr&iacute;fugo.<SUP>15</SUP> Tambi&eacute;n se cultiva  con fines ornamentales. Hasta el presente no se han encontrado estudios qu&iacute;micos  ni farmacol&oacute;gicos acerca de esta planta. Teniendo en cuenta las propiedades  farmacol&oacute;gicas reportadas para las diferentes especies de S<I>cutellaria</I>,<I>  </I>se decidi&oacute; realizar el tamizaje fitoqu&iacute;mico de las partes a&eacute;reas  de <I>S. havanenesis</I>. Los resultados de este estudio pueden servir de base  para investigaciones futuras sobre sus posibles efectos farmacol&oacute;gicos.</font>      <P>&nbsp;     <P>     <P><font face="Verdana" size="3"><B>M&Eacute;TODOS</B> </font>     <P>     <P><font face="Verdana" size="2">El  material vegetal, constituido por tallos y hojas (alrededor de 50 g), se recolect&oacute;  en octubre de 2010 en el Jard&iacute;n Bot&aacute;nico Nacional, La Habana; se  autentific&oacute; por los especialistas del herbario del jard&iacute;n, donde  qued&oacute; depositado un ejemplar con el n&uacute;mero 087485 (HAJB). El material  vegetal fresco recolectado se cort&oacute; en trozos de 1 cm. </font>     <P><font face="Verdana" size="2">Se  obtuvieron extractos et&eacute;reo (300 mL), metan&oacute;lico (200 mL) y acuoso  (150 mL) por maceraci&oacute;n a temperatura ambiente durante 48 h, a los cuales  se les realizaron las pruebas fitoqu&iacute;micas seg&uacute;n lo establecido  por <I>Miranda </I>y otros.<SUP>16 </SUP>A esos extractos se les determin&oacute;  la presencia de saponinas, muc&iacute;lagos, principios amargos y astringentes,  carotenos, aceites esenciales y grasas, alcaloides, grupos amino, az&uacute;cares  reductores, fenoles y taninos, flavonoides, leucoantocianidinas, coumarinas, carotenos,  glic&oacute;sidos cardiot&oacute;nicos, quinonas, triterpenos y esteroides. </font>      <P><font face="Verdana" size="2">A la droga fresca se le realiz&oacute; adem&aacute;s  la determinaci&oacute;n de glic&oacute;sidos cianogen&eacute;ticos. En todos los  casos se emplearon disolventes grado reactivo y las disoluciones correspondientes  a cada ensayo se prepararon seg&uacute;n <I>Miranda</I><SUP>16</SUP> y la <I>Gu&iacute;a  Metodol&oacute;gica para la Investigaci&oacute;n Fitoqu&iacute;mica de Plantas  Medicinales del Ministerio de Salud P&uacute;blica</I>.<SUP>17</SUP> </font>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<P>&nbsp;      <P>     <P><font face="Verdana" size="3"><B>RESULTADOS</B> </font>     <P>     <P><font face="Verdana" size="2">Se  obtuvieron los extractos et&eacute;reo, metan&oacute;lico y acuoso de las partes  a&eacute;reas frescas de <I>S. havanensis</I>. <body><![CDATA[<P>     <P><font face="Verdana" size="2">Como se puede observar en la tabla,  se detectaron diversos metabolitos. En el extracto et&eacute;reo se encontraron  alcaloides, coumarinas, y triterpenos y esteroides. Aunque la detecci&oacute;n  de aceites esenciales (AE) en el extracto result&oacute; dudosa, al realizar una  hidrodestilaci&oacute;n de las partes a&eacute;reas se obtuvo 0,18 % (v/p) de  rendimiento de aceite esencial (AE), que al analizarlo por cromatograf&iacute;a  de gases y espectrometr&iacute;a de masas, se encontr&oacute; que estaba constituido  fundamentalmente por &szlig;-cariofileno (75,6 %); <font face="Symbol">a</font>-humuleno  (11,6 %) y &oacute;xido de cariofileno (2,6 %),<SUP>18</SUP> lo cual coincide  con lo encontrado para otras especies del g&eacute;nero <I>Scutellaria</I>.<SUP>19-22</SUP>  </font>     <P><font face="Verdana" size="2">En los extractos m&aacute;s polares,  alcoh&oacute;lico y acuoso, se detectaron alcaloides, grupos aminos, az&uacute;cares,  flavonoides, quinonas y resinas. Adem&aacute;s, en el extracto acuoso se encontraron  saponinas y principios amargos y astringentes. La droga fresca no present&oacute;  glic&oacute;sidos cianogen&eacute;ticos, luego de haberse realizado el ensayo  de <I>Grignard</I>. </font>     <P><font face="Verdana" size="2">Por otra parte, resulta  interesante se&ntilde;alar, en esta especie cubana, la presencia de flavonoides,  alcaloides y triterpenoides, compuestos que tambi&eacute;n han sido encontrados  en otras especies de S<I>cutellaria </I>y que<I> </I>han mostrado efectos farmacol&oacute;gicos  relevantes sobre los sistemas nervioso y cardiovascular, entre otros<I>.</I><SUP>3-10,23,24</SUP>  De manera general, estos resultados pudieran sustentar que se contin&uacute;e  el estudio de los extractos de esta planta para profundizar en el an&aacute;lisis  de esos compuestos e iniciar la posible evaluaci&oacute;n de sus efectos farmacol&oacute;gicos.  </font>     <P>&nbsp;     <P>     <P>     <P>     <P>     <P><font face="Verdana" size="3"><B>REFERENCIAS BIBLIOGR&Aacute;FICAS</B>  </font>     ]]></body>
