La salida de este número de la Revista se suma a las actividades conmemorativas de un evento que hace cincuenta años conmovió a la comunidad profesional internacional. A solo cuatro años del triunfo de la Revolución y envuelta en su contagiosa actividad creativa, tuvo lugar en La Habana la celebración del VII Congreso de la Unión Internacional de Arquitectos UIA, que por primera vez tenía lugar en un país del III mundo. Para tan importante ocasión, fue inaugurada una de las obras más reconocidas del patrimonio moderno cubano, el Pabellón Cuba, ubicado en la Rampa, una céntrica calle del Vedado, que en ese momento consolidó su identidad y belleza como resultado de diversas intervenciones de altos valores funcionales y artísticos. Por estos días de septiembre, arquitectos y estudiantes de arquitectura se han reunido en el Pabellón Cuba para recordar el aniversario con varias actividades organizadas por la Sociedad de Arquitectos, entre las cuales se destacan el conversatorio con personalidades que tuvieron una importante participación en aquellos sucesos y la esperada conferencia impartida por el sobresaliente intelectual cubano Mario Coyula. En este número de Arquitectura y Urbanismo nuestros lectores tendrán la posibilidad de entrar en contacto con recientes resultados de investigaciones desarrolladas en Iberoamérica, en temas muy diversos, pero todos enfocados hacia la solución de problemas para mejorar la vida de las personas, ahorrar recursos naturales y salvar la memoria histórica de nuestras ciudades y pueblos. Es posible que el discurso se haya actualizado y enriquecido en estos cincuenta años transcurridos desde el Congreso de la UIA, pero no cabe duda de que muchas de las preocupaciones de aquella generación de arquitectos aún guían nuestros pasos. Sirva este número para demostrarlo.

The output of this issue of the Journal adds to the commemoration of an event that fifty years ago shocked the international professional community. Just four years after the triumph of the Revolution and surrounded by his contagious creative activity, the Seventh Congress of the International Union of Architects was held in Havana, for the first time in a Latin American country. For such an important occasion, one of the most recognized works of contemporary Cuban heritage, the Cuba Pavilion, was opened. It is located on the Ramp, a central street in Vedado, which then consolidated its identity and beauty as a result of various interventions of high functional as well as artistic values. In these days of September, architects and architecture students have gathered at the Cuba Pavilion to mark the anniversary with several activities organized by the Society of Architects, among which stand out the discussion with personalities who played an important part in those events and the expected lecture by the outstanding Cuban intellectual Mario Coyula. In this issue of Architecture and Urbanism our readers will be able to contact recent results of research conducted in Latin America in many subjects, but all focused on solving problems to improve the lives of people, save natural resources and save the historical memory of our cities and towns. Speech may have been updated and enriched in these fifty years since the Congress of the UIA, but there is no doubt that many of the concerns of that generation of architects even guide our steps. Serve this number to prove it.
