El modelo de simulación requirió de análisis y tratamiento estadístico de datos de 1238 órdenes de trabajo entregadas por la compañía. Se emplea un software para el desarrollo de la simulación, planteando la situación actual y comparándola con 4 escenarios con estrategias de mejoras de planificación de personal, con foco en reducir las distancias de traslado y reducir el tiempo de respuesta de servicios. Uno de los escenarios planteados establece una disminución del 9,36% en los tiempos promedios ponderados de espera, aunque las distancias recorridas aumentan en relación con la situación actual.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Discrete event simulation is shown as a tool to staff planning at a services firm for copper mining in Chile to reduce waiting times for service development. The simulation model required analysis and statistical treatment of 1238 work orders data provided by the firm. A software was used to simulate; it built the current situation and was compared against 4 scenarios with improvement strategies for staff planning, focused in to reduce both travel distance and service response time. One of the scenarios proposed establishes a 9.36% decrease in weighted average waiting times, although the travel distance increase in relation to the current situation.]]></p></abstract>
