Se evaluaron las consecuencias de la modificación química en el mecanismo y grado de adsorción de los iones de escandio (III) en el licor residual WL de la tecnología ácida. La caracterización textural por adsorción de N2 permitió comprobar la naturaleza microporosa de los carbones empleados. El mayor incremento en la capacidad de adsorción de escandio se logró oxidando con H3PO4 a la menor concentración el carbón regenerado, con un valor de 0,145 mg/g, lo que representó el 11,8 % de remoción. Se demostró que la modificación química del carbón activado provoca un aumento de la capacidad de adsorción y porcentajes de remoción del escandio producto a la creación de interacciones específicas con el material adsorbente. El tratamiento del licor residual WL con carbón activado constituye, además de una vía de recuperación de escandio con fines económicos, una alternativa para mitigar la contaminación ambiental que provoca este residual.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Results of a virgin activated carbon oxidation effect and the same carbon, but regenerated after being declared exhausted in producing rum process, using phosphoric acid solutions of 1 mol/L and 2 mol/L concentration are presented. Consequences of chemical modification on the mechanism and degree of scandium adsorption (III) ions in the WL residual liquor of acid technology were evaluated. Textural characterization by N2 adsorption allowed verifying the microporous nature of the carbons used. The highest increase in scandium adsorption capacity was achieved by oxidizing the regenerated coal with H3PO4 at lowest concentration, with a value of 0,145 mg/g, which represented 11,8 % removal. It was demonstrated that chemical modification of activated carbon causes an increase in the adsorption capacity and thus in the scandium removal due to the creation of specific interactions with the adsorbent material. Treatment of WL waste liquor with activated carbon constitutes a part from a way to recover scandium for financial purposes, an alternative to mitigate the environmental pollution caused by this waste.]]></p></abstract>
